STMicroelectronics Launches ISM330BX: Advanced Industrial IMU STMicroelectronics introduces the ISM330BX, a cutting-edge 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) boasting edge-AI processing, expandable sensor capabilities, and ST’s Qvar electric charge variation sensing. Designed for energy-efficient industrial sensing and motion tracking, this IMU offers longevity assurance.

Featuring a 3-axis gyroscope and accelerometer with low-noise architecture and high bandwidth, the ISM330BX excels in machine-tool condition monitoring and various applications like robotics, automated guided vehicles (AGV), and motion trackers.

Equipped with ST’s edge-processing engine, including a machine-learning core and AI algorithms, the IMU optimizes power usage and offloads the host processor. Its Sensor Fusion Low-Power (SFLP) algorithm enables efficient 3D orientation tracking, enhancing energy efficiency in robotics and safety applications.

The IMU’s autonomous capabilities ensure low latency and power consumption by managing data transmission and offloading the main processor. Its integrated analog hub facilitates energy-efficient system integration by connecting external analog sensors directly to the edge-processing engine.

With ST’s Qvar electric charge variation detector integrated, the IMU supports touch and proximity detection, as well as additional functionalities like water leak sensing, enhancing system integration and energy efficiency.

The launch of the ISM330BX marks a significant advancement in MEMS technology for industrial markets, supported by essential hardware and software resources for developers. The IMU will be showcased at the upcoming Sensor and Test 2024 event, featuring insightful keynote speeches and demo sessions highlighting its transformative potential in motion sensing.

Part of ST’s 10-year product-longevity program, the ISM330BX is now in production, available at a starting price of $4.00 for orders of 1000 pieces.
