SOLUM has received the Red Dot Award: Product Design for its Newton Core+ and Newton E-Paper 32”, two products recognized for their ability to address key retail needs in terms of functionality, design quality, ease of use and responsibility.
As retailers increasingly prioritize solutions that support in-store presentation, operational ease of use, and long-term reliability, these awards recognize two products developed specifically around these priorities. The Newton Core+ and Newton E-Paper 32″ represent an approach to retail technology tailored to the specific needs of the point of sale, where visual consistency, everyday usability, and reliable performance truly make the difference.
Newton Core+: Premium shelf-mounted design, built to withstand everyday retail use
For Newton Core+, the award recognizes a product designed to raise the bar for everyday electronic shelf labels (ESLs). In retail, shelf edges are becoming an increasingly visible element of store design, and ESLs are increasingly required to combine ease of use with the robustness needed for everyday operations.
Newton Core+ addresses this need by combining a thinner, more refined on-shelf presentation with the durability needed for everyday use. The slim profile and narrow bezel contribute to a cleaner, more uniform look, while the anti-glare front surface promotes clear readability in a variety of lighting conditions. The protective window design also helps the label better withstand contact and impact in particularly demanding retail environments. The result is a solution that combines on-shelf visual quality and reliability for large-scale deployments.
Newton E-Paper 32”: large-format in-store communication beyond paper
The Newton E-Paper 32″ was awarded for a product designed to offer retailers a more flexible and sustainable alternative to large-format paper communication. In-store, paper signage often requires constant reprinting, replacement, and disposal, and the Newton E-Paper 32″ was developed to reduce this burden thanks to its ultra-low energy consumption and battery operation.
At 16.4 mm thin and weighing 2.3 kg, the display is designed to integrate more easily into a wide variety of retail environments. Installation options—including suction cup mounting, hanging, VESA mounting, and easel use—allow for a variety of layouts and communication needs, while the removable battery pack located at the bottom simplifies maintenance, even in elevated installations. With one update per day, the Newton E-Paper 32” can provide up to 400 days¹ of use, offering retailers a practical way to move beyond paper with greater flexibility and less ongoing operational complexity.
In retail, good product design is becoming a requirement for rollout
As the shift from paper-based communications to more connected store environments expands, in-store technologies are increasingly required to ensure usability, visual quality, durability, and sustainability. Newton Core+ and Newton E-Paper 32″ clearly reflect this trend and reinforce SOLUM’s broader role as a partner for the digital transformation of retail.
“SOLUM supports retailers through a broad portfolio of solutions and partnerships, while continuing to strengthen the competitiveness of its products through robust R&D capabilities,” said [Name], [Title] of SOLUM. “These awards reflect that strength, and we will continue to evolve our product base in line with the next phase of retail transformation.”
¹ Results are based on internal testing and may vary depending on usage conditions and scenarios.
