Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope Realigns Glass Manufacturing Network to Strengthen Regional Capabilities and Customer Service
Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope (OBE), a leading supplier of architectural glass, metal, and glazing systems, has announced a strategic realignment of its glass manufacturing network aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening regional capabilities, and enhancing customer support across key markets in the United States.
As part of the initiative, OBE will transition glass operations at its Miami South, Florida, and Grand Prairie, Texas, facilities to established regional locations with the manufacturing capacity, technical expertise, and resources needed to serve customers in both markets. The company is also allocating additional resources to the receiving facilities to facilitate an orderly transition, maintain service continuity, and ensure customers continue to have access to the products and services they depend on.
The realignment reflects OBE’s broader strategy of consolidating resources, connecting manufacturing capabilities, and investing in facilities that can support changing market requirements. By bringing operations together within its established regional networks, the company aims to strengthen its competitive position while improving the efficiency of its manufacturing and distribution operations.
Mark Adamson, Chief Executive Officer of Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope, said the company continually evaluates how it can improve operational performance and better serve customers. He explained that decisions about investment, resource allocation, and collaboration across facilities are essential to making the most of the company’s existing capabilities.
According to Adamson, the changes will enable OBE to build on the strengths of its current network while continuing to support customers and markets throughout its operating regions.
Strengthening Manufacturing Capabilities Across the Southeast
Under the realignment plan, glass fabrication operations at OBE’s Miami South facility will transition to its established Southeast network, which includes Miami North in Florida, its Covington, Georgia, facility, and Coral Industries in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The transition is designed to combine the resources and specialized expertise of these locations, providing customers throughout Florida and the wider Southeast with access to a broader range of manufacturing capabilities.
A key component of the regional network is Coral Industries’ 210,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Tuscaloosa. The facility offers a range of advanced glass fabrication services, including computer numerical control (CNC) cutting, custom-shaped glass fabrication, edging, beveling, and tempering.
These capabilities support the production of glass products for a variety of architectural and construction applications. By connecting Coral Industries’ expertise with OBE’s other Southeast operations, the company aims to expand regional manufacturing flexibility and improve access to specialized fabrication services.
The integration of these facilities is also intended to help OBE use its manufacturing resources more efficiently. Rather than relying on the capabilities of individual locations, the company can coordinate production across its broader network to respond to customer requirements and changing demand patterns.
OBE believes that its regional network approach will strengthen its ability to support customers across Florida and neighboring markets while maintaining access to the specialized products and services required for architectural glazing projects.
The company is also emphasizing collaboration among its operating businesses and brands. By bringing their respective strengths together, OBE intends to improve coordination, broaden product availability, and create a more connected manufacturing and service structure across the Southeast.
Texas Realignment Builds on Expanded Houston Operations
In Texas, glass operations at the Grand Prairie facility will transition to OBE’s recently expanded Houston facility. The move builds on previous investments in the Houston market and is intended to combine existing manufacturing capabilities within a more integrated regional operation.
The expanded Houston facility brings glass and metal capabilities together under one roof, allowing customers to access a broader range of products and services through a coordinated operation.
Its glass product offering includes laminated, insulating, and tempered glass. Customers can also access standard metal frames, CRL hardware and glazing supplies, and Coral shower door products.
Bringing these capabilities together is intended to simplify the customer experience by improving access to complementary products and supporting more coordinated project fulfillment.
The Houston operation also offers coordinated jobsite delivery and a single Will Call location, providing customers with a centralized point for collecting products and accessing services. These arrangements are designed to make purchasing and project coordination more convenient, particularly for customers managing multiple products or construction schedules.
OBE’s investment in Houston forms part of a broader commitment to its Texas operations. The company maintains an established network of manufacturing, fabrication, and distribution facilities throughout the state, each offering distinct products, technical capabilities, and customer support services.
In addition to the expanded Houston facility, OBE’s Texas network includes Terrell Standard Products, US Aluminum in Waxahachie, the Dallas CRL Service Center, and two additional metal service centers serving Dallas and surrounding markets.
Together, these locations provide customers with access to a broad portfolio of architectural products, manufacturing resources, and regional distribution capabilities.
OBE’s strategy is to use the combined strength of this network rather than depend exclusively on the capabilities of a single facility. The company expects this approach to improve coordination among operations, increase access to specialized products, and strengthen local customer support across Texas.
A More Connected and Efficient Manufacturing Network
The realignment reflects OBE’s continued focus on aligning manufacturing capacity with regional demand and directing investments toward facilities that can deliver the greatest value to customers.
By transferring glass operations from Miami South and Grand Prairie to established regional locations, the company aims to build on existing infrastructure while bringing complementary capabilities together.
The additional resources planned for the receiving facilities are intended to support the transition and help maintain continuity in product availability, delivery, and customer service.
For customers in the affected markets, OBE’s stated objective is to preserve access to the products and support they need while strengthening the capabilities available through its wider regional networks.
The company has highlighted the importance of its employees, manufacturing facilities, and technical expertise in delivering these improvements. Coordinating these resources more effectively is expected to help OBE respond to evolving customer requirements and operate with greater efficiency.
Adamson said the company has strong employees, facilities, and expertise across its business, and that bringing these strengths together presents an opportunity to improve performance and create additional growth opportunities.
He emphasized that a more connected operating model would allow OBE to work more effectively as a unified network, deliver greater value to customers, and strengthen its competitive position within the architectural glass and glazing industry.
Outlook: Continued Investment in Regional Growth
Looking ahead, Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope plans to continue strengthening its manufacturing and service network through targeted investments in facilities, regional capabilities, and customer support.
The expanded Houston operation and the fabrication resources available across the Southeast are expected to play important roles in the company’s efforts to serve customers as market needs evolve.
OBE’s approach combines regional manufacturing expertise with a broader network of facilities, allowing the company to coordinate resources and provide access to a wider range of products and services.
The realignment also demonstrates the company’s emphasis on operational efficiency, strategic investment, and collaboration across its businesses.
As the transitions progress, OBE remains focused on maintaining service continuity and ensuring customers continue to receive the products, capabilities, and support required for their projects.
Through these changes, the company aims to establish a more integrated, capable, and competitive manufacturing network that supports long-term growth while reinforcing its position as a trusted partner to customers across the architectural glass, metal, and glazing markets.
