Ricardo, a global leader in environmental and engineering consulting, has introduced Element, a new range of modular transmissions designed to meet the needs of clients with specialized product portfolios. The Element range provides a cost-effective solution for developing custom drivetrains for advanced propulsion systems, ensuring high performance and quality. The first release in the series is a set of epicyclic reduction drives tailored for electric, hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cell platforms.
Customers can choose from a selection of baseline solutions for quick prototyping or customize their transmission with various pre-engineered torque outputs and gear ratio options to fit specific requirements.
The Element range is engineered for industries with demanding performance and operational needs, including motorsport, high-performance automotive, defense, off-highway, marine, and industrial sectors.
Steve Blevins, Head of Engineering for Ricardo’s Performance Products unit, commented, “We are known for creating bespoke gearboxes for high-end motorsport and automotive, but as product development cycles shorten and budgets tighten, there is a growing demand for cost-effective solutions that don’t compromise on the quality and performance of a custom design. Element delivers exactly that.”
James Sundler, Business Development Director for Performance Products, added, “We are committed to supporting our clients in their decarbonization efforts. By offering pre-engineered solutions that are plug-and-play compatible with a range of electric motors, we can help speed up the development of electric drive units (EDUs) while maintaining the high engineering standards Ricardo is known for.”
“Element allows our clients to accelerate their shift to cleaner propulsion technologies by reducing development costs and lead times. Our modular approach also offers the flexibility to meet the unique operational needs of sectors such as motorsport, defense, and marine.”
Blending Ricardo’s engineering expertise with the growing demand for modular, adaptable transmission solutions, Element is set to help industries tackle the rapid changes ahead while achieving performance, reliability, and environmental goals.
The Element range will make its debut at the Professional Motorsport World Expo on November 13-14, 2024, at Cologne Messe.
