STMicroelectronics Introduces Affordable NFC Reader for High-Volume Consumer and Industrial Devices STMicroelectronics has unveiled its latest innovation, the ST25R100 near-field communication (NFC) reader, offering a compelling blend of advanced features, reliable communication, and cost-effectiveness. Designed to enhance the value of contactless interaction in mass-market consumer and industrial products, the ST25R100 is set to revolutionize the way devices engage wirelessly.
Boasting high performance, low power consumption, and a compact 4mm x 4mm form factor, the ST25R100 supports a wide array of contactless applications. Its small size makes integration seamless in various products such as printers, power tools, gaming terminals, home appliances, medical devices, and access controls.
Sylvain Fidelis, Multi-market Business Line Manager at STMicroelectronics, emphasized the significance of contactless technology, stating, “Contactless interaction is becoming increasingly vital for recognizing genuine accessories, ordering consumables, and monitoring usage across diverse product categories. With its exceptional performance-to-cost ratio and user-friendly development ecosystem, the ST25R100 offers an accessible and easily deployable solution for our customers.”
Equipped with advanced controls for signal quality and power management, the ST25R100 ensures robust wireless connections even in devices with limited space for antennas. Additionally, its enhanced low-power card detection (LPCD) extends the detection range, enhancing the user experience.
The ST25R100 integrates an advanced analog front end (AFE) and a data-framing system supporting standard NFC specifications, including NFC-A/B (ISO 14443A/B, up to 106kb/s) and NFC-V (ISO 15693, up to 53kbit/s) for card reading.
With a wide power-supply and peripheral-I/O voltage range (2.7V to 5.5V) and multiple operating modes for power management, the ST25R100 ensures optimal performance even in battery-powered applications, with minimal current consumption.
The ST25R100 is currently available for sampling in a compact 4mm x 4mm 24-pin TQFN package, with pricing starting from $1.82 for orders of 1000 pieces.
STMicroelectronics will showcase the capabilities of the ST25R100 reader at Embedded World 2024 in Nuremberg, Germany, April 9-11, booth 148, Hall 4A.
