Tenaris was recently honored with the prestigious Economic Impact Award by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, a testament to the company’s substantial contributions to the local economy and unwavering dedication to the community of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.
Presented during the annual Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards ceremony on May 9, the award, sponsored by Algoma Steel, recognizes Chamber members who have significantly bolstered the economic landscape of Sault Ste. Marie through innovation, entrepreneurship, investments, and a steadfast commitment to regional prosperity. John Naccarato, Vice President of Algoma Steel, bestowed the award upon Martín Castro, President of Tenaris in Canada.
Over the past four years, Tenaris has injected over $200 million into its industrial center in Sault Ste. Marie, consolidating its pipe manufacturing operations and enhancing its product capabilities to better support the development of Canada’s energy sector. This strategic investment has not only expanded Tenaris’s employee base to 1,200 across Canada but has also broadened its clientele within the oil and gas industry.
Martín Castro affirmed Tenaris’s enduring commitment, stating, “We are here for the long haul. Our growth investments extend beyond our industrial footprint, reflecting our belief in the collective progress of our communities.” He emphasized the importance of community strength and ensuring educational resources are readily available to nurture the next generation of leaders.
In addition to the Economic Impact Award, Tenaris was also honored with the Community Investment Award from the Chamber, recognizing its leadership and steadfast support for nearly 25 years. Over the past year alone, Tenaris has invested $750,000 in various community initiatives, with a significant portion allocated to projects in Sault Ste. Marie. Their community-focused initiatives span education, skill development, healthcare support in Northern Ontario, and fostering cultural diversity and inclusion through employee volunteerism and participation in family-oriented events and festivals.
Furthermore, Tenaris sponsored three Chamber awards dedicated to indigenous reconciliation, safety, and community investment, further underlining their commitment to holistic community development.
