QuantWare raises $178 million to develop the world’s most powerful quantum processors at industrial scale

QuantWare, a leader in industrial quantum processors, today announced it has raised $178 million (€152 million) in Series B funding following the unveiling of VIO-40K™: a 10,000-qubit quantum processor architecture that is 100 times more powerful than current technologies. The company is currently building KiloFab, the world’s largest open-architecture quantum processor manufacturing facility, which will increase its production capacity 20-fold and help meet strong global demand.

QuantWare is the only company to design, manufacture, and integrate modular quantum processors on an open, industrial-scale architecture. Its proprietary VIO™ technology—a modular quantum processor architecture—enables the creation of the world’s most powerful quantum processors, delivering the best performance per watt.

Designed as an open platform capable of scaling qubit chiplets and third-party designs, VIO™ enables the deployment of the most powerful quantum processing units (QPUs) across the industry. QuantWare supports the global quantum supply chain with its own QPUs, foundry services, and chiplet encapsulation, allowing all companies in the quantum computing industry to scale on QuantWare’s VIO™ architecture.

To date, QuantWare has delivered its products to more than 50 customers across 20 countries, making it the world’s largest supplier of commercial QPUs by volume. Its customers include companies specializing in quantum computing, national institutes of technology, and major international technology groups.

New investors participating in the funding round included Intel Capital, IQT, and ETF Partners, while existing investors FORWARD.one, Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund, InnovationQuarter Capital, Ground State Ventures, and Graduate Ventures also participated. This funding round was oversubscribed and represents the largest private financing ever secured by a quantum processor company.

“In superconducting quantum computing, scaling is increasingly limited by routing, encapsulation, and manufacturability, and no longer just by qubit design,” says Kike Miralles of Intel Capital . “QuantWare understood this early on and created VIO to address it. This combination of technical ambition and implementation positions the company as the one on which the future of quantum superconducting systems will depend.”

“Building a global hardware company requires immense ambition. The QuantWare team possesses this determination and, thanks to its VIO technology, holds the key to dominating the rapidly growing quantum industry. As one of its early investors, we are proud to continue supporting it in what is now the largest global funding round for a company specializing in quantum processors,” says Robin van Boxsel, general partner at FORWARD.one .

“Quantum computing is on the verge of reaching a tipping point and is a strategic priority for nations worldwide,” said JD Englehart, senior director of IQT . “QuantWare possesses both VIO’s groundbreaking, scalable technology and the necessary industrial capabilities provided by KiloFab. The company is poised to play a key role in shaping the global supply chain for quantum technologies.”

“The potential of quantum computing, capable of solving humanity’s most complex problems, can only be unleashed by manufacturing and deploying it at scale. That’s precisely what we’re doing,” said Matt Rijlaarsdam, CEO and co-founder of QuantWare . “The VIO-40K will deliver 10,000-qubit processors on an open architecture capable of supporting the entire ecosystem, while KiloFab will provide the industrial manufacturing capacity needed to meet rapidly increasing global demand. This funding round accelerates QuantWare’s development and, in doing so, propels the entire ecosystem toward very large-scale quantum computing.”
