GigaDevice joins Project Zephyr® to foster a global open-source ecosystem.

GigaDevice , a leading semiconductor company specializing in Flash memory , 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) , sensors , and analog products , has officially joined Project Zephyr®, one of the world’s leading open-source real-time operating systems (RTOS). Hosted by the Linux Foundation®, Project Zephyr® welcomes GigaDevice as a Silver member, making it a Silver member of both Project Zephyr® and the Linux Foundation. By leveraging its comprehensive portfolio of GD32 microcontrollers, GigaDevice will actively participate in the Zephyr® community, fostering deeper integration between its microcontroller technologies and the global open-source RTOS ecosystem. This will provide customers and developers in the industrial, IoT, consumer electronics, and other sectors with a more open, standardized, and efficient embedded development environment, while continuing to contribute to the growth of the global open-source embedded systems ecosystem and broader access to technology.

With the continuous evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT), industrial control, smart homes, and wearable devices, embedded products are increasing the demands on software ecosystems in terms of openness, portability, and development efficiency. As an open-source real-time operating system (RTOS) for embedded devices, Project Zephyr brings together chip vendors, software vendors, device manufacturers, and developer communities around the world, providing an open and flexible software foundation for developing embedded applications. GigaDevice will actively participate in the Zephyr open-source community and continue to promote deeper integration between GD32 microcontrollers and the Zephyr ecosystem.

As a leader in providing microcontrollers (MCUs), GigaDevice has always prioritized the development of the software ecosystem for MCUs and has continuously promoted the adaptation and integration of GD32 MCUs with major open-source software ecosystems. Currently, the GigaDevice engineering team is working on adapting GD32 MCUs for the Zephyr Project in its internal code repositories, completing SoC-level support, BSP controllers, and board support for various MCU series. Users can obtain the relevant code directly from the GD32 GitHub repositories for development. The GigaDevice engineering team also offers ongoing code contributions and technical support to the Zephyr community.

The seamless integration of GD32 microcontrollers into the Zephyr ecosystem offers more software options and development capabilities for applications such as industrial control, IoT, smart homes, and consumer electronics. This will help drive product development efficiency and accelerate the launch of innovative solutions. Meanwhile, the comprehensive code, development resources, and community support will further enhance the accessibility and ease of use of GD32 microcontroller development capabilities for customers and developers.

Joining the Linux Foundation and the Zephyr Project marks a new starting point for GigaDevice’s open ecosystem strategy. In the next phase, GigaDevice will complete the adaptation and core project contribution of more products with GD32 microcontrollers, enhance software capabilities, and promote support for more microcontrollers to be integrated into the Zephyr core line, facilitating the development of embedded applications based on GD32 for developers worldwide. At the same time, GigaDevice will contribute to the development of the Zephyr ecosystem and work with industry partners to improve the ecosystem’s infrastructure. Guided by the principle of open cooperation, GigaDevice will continue connecting GD32 microcontrollers to more popular open-source ecosystems and working with industry partners to create a more complete microcontroller development environment that empowers customers and developers.
