Fluence, a global leader in energy-efficient LED lighting solutions for commercial cannabis cultivation, has launched the ninth edition of its annual State of the Cannabis Lighting Market report in collaboration with Cannabis Business Times. This report, a key industry resource, highlights the ongoing shift toward LED adoption among cannabis growers, alongside increasing interest in innovative lighting solutions like side, intercanopy, and sub-canopy systems.
LED adoption is on the verge of becoming the universal standard for critical phases of cannabis cultivation, offering greater yields, reduced heat, and lower energy consumption—without compromising crop quality, said Dr. David Hawley, Principal Scientist at Fluence. “These benefits are driving growers to explore additive lighting strategies, such as intercanopy and sub-canopy lighting, which our research shows can significantly enhance yields and bud quality in the lower canopy.”
Key Findings from the Report
- LED Adoption Surge: 78% of surveyed growers use LEDs during the vegetative phase, and 77% for flowering—a dramatic increase of over 60 percentage points since the first report in 2016.
- Augmenting Top Lighting: 65% of commercial growers planning new lighting investments aim to explore supplemental options like side or intercanopy fixtures, reflecting a 10% increase in interest compared to 2023.
- Focus on Quality: 42% of participants ranked crop quality as their top priority when adopting LED technology.
- Spectral Preferences: 23% of growers indicated that 40–50% red spectrum is the most critical attribute for flowering.
