Efficient & Flexible: STMicroelectronics’ 40V Linear Regulators

STMicroelectronics Introduces LDH40 and LDQ40 Voltage Regulators STMicroelectronics has unveiled the LDH40 and LDQ40 voltage regulators tailored for automotive and industrial applications. These regulators boast a startup capability from as low as 3.3V, with the capacity to operate at up to 40V while maintaining low quiescent current.

The LDH40 model delivers a maximum output of 200mA and offers adjustable output voltage ranging from 1.2V to 22V. Meanwhile, the LDQ40 variant provides 250mA, featuring an adjustable output voltage from 1.2V to 12V, alongside fixed output voltages including 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5.0V.

These low-dropout (LDO) regulators are designed to ensure efficient power conversion for energy-conscious applications. With a quiescent current as low as 2µA at zero load and 300nA in logic-controlled shutdown mode, they effectively conserve battery energy in always-on standby systems. Additionally, the regulators are stabilized with a small ceramic capacitor on the output.

For automotive applications, the LDH40 and LDQ40 devices are AEC-Q100 qualified and packaged as 2mm x 2mm DFN6L devices with wettable flanks, facilitating PCB design and automated optical inspection. Their wide input-voltage range enables connection to a vehicle’s 12V bus, supporting infotainment systems, instrument clusters, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Their low quiescent and standby current make them particularly suitable for electric vehicles.

All LDOs come equipped with system protection and management features such as internal current limiting, thermal protection, soft-start, and output active discharge. They feature an enable pin for shutdown control and a power-good pin for diagnostic monitoring. Moreover, the LDQ40 devices offer short-circuit protection.

The LDH40 automotive-grade regulator is currently in production in the DFN6L wettable flank package. The adjustable-output LDQ40 regulators, available in both industrial and automotive grades, are also in production, packaged in standard DFN6L and wettable-flank options for automotive applications. Fixed-output LDQ40 automotive parts with voltages of 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5.0V are slated for release in Q2, while industrial-grade LDQ40 with voltages of 3.3V and 5.0V will be available by Q3. Pricing for automotive products starts from $0.47 for 1000 units, while industrial-grade LDQ40 starts from $0.40 for 1000 units. Free samples for both LDH40 and LDQ40 are available at the ST eStore.
