Daimler Truck: Greenlane JV Unveils LA to Vegas EV Charging Corridor

Daimler Truck AG’s Greenlane Joint Venture Launches First U.S. Commercial EV Charging Corridor Daimler Truck AG, through its Greenlane Infrastructure joint venture, has unveiled its inaugural electric vehicle (EV) charging corridor for commercial vehicles in the United States. Greenlane, a collaboration between Daimler Truck North America LLC, NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, and BlackRock’s Climate Infrastructure business, is dedicated to establishing a comprehensive network of high-performance zero-emission charging and hydrogen refueling stations for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles nationwide.

Spanning 280 miles between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the corridor will feature over 100 chargers and modern amenities along Interstate I-15. The initial phase will see three charging locations in Colton, Barstow, and Baker, California, strategically selected based on truck telematics data, freight routes, and deployment strategy. Additional sites will be added over the next year, extending the corridor’s reach to Southern Nevada and San Pedro, California.

Patrick Macdonald-King, CEO of Greenlane, emphasized the significance of this initiative in meeting the growing demand for electric charging infrastructure. The sites are designed to provide a seamless experience for drivers, featuring wide pull-through lanes and modern facilities offering restrooms, food, and beverage options.

Beyond its immediate objectives, Greenlane aims to establish a nationwide network of commercial charging infrastructure, catering to both medium- and heavy-duty vehicles as well as passenger cars and light-duty fleets. The Colton site, set to commence construction this spring and open by late 2024, will boast over 60 chargers, including 400 kW Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC) for rapid charging. Future phases will accommodate long-duration and overnight charging options, ensuring compatibility with evolving vehicle technologies.

In anticipation of future advancements, the Colton site will also be equipped to support the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) once commercially available, reaffirming Greenlane’s commitment to staying at the forefront of electric charging innovation.
