Boeing Secures Deal for Seven More MH-139A Helicopters

The U.S. Air Force has recently granted Boeing a lucrative $178 million contract, marking a significant stride in bolstering their aviation fleet with seven additional MH-139A aircraft. This contract encompasses not only the production of these helicopters but also includes provisions for sustainment and training support. With this latest procurement, the total count of contracted aircraft stands at 26.

Azeem Khan, the MH-139 program director, emphasized the pivotal role of this contract in advancing the Air Force’s modernization agenda. He stressed the importance of fulfilling these commitments swiftly to enhance the Air Force’s capabilities in safeguarding crucial national assets. This contract award follows closely on the heels of the maiden flight of the first production aircraft in December 2023. Progress is well underway, with the initial production aircraft undergoing rigorous testing and others progressing through various stages of production. Boeing is confidently on course to deliver the first LRIP (Low-Rate Initial Production) aircraft to the Air Force by the summer.

The MH-139 stands as a versatile multi-mission helicopter tailored for patrol, search and rescue operations, as well as troop and cargo transport duties. Built upon the reliable foundation of the Leonardo Helicopters AW139, the MH-139 is fortified with specialized military equipment by Boeing. This amalgamation of proven design and cutting-edge technology empowers operators to execute missions swiftly, quietly, and with utmost efficiency and safety.
