Belgium has finalized a significant procurement deal with Airbus Helicopters, marking the acquisition of 15 H145M multi-role helicopters for its army, along with two helicopters initially and an option for three more for the Federal Police. The contract, executed through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) on behalf of Belgium, underscores the nation’s commitment to enhancing its defense and security capabilities.
Airbus Helicopters CEO, Bruno Even, expressed pride in Belgium’s decision to join the expanding community of H145M users, highlighting the helicopter’s versatility in tactical airlift, special operations, and medical evacuation missions. He anticipates the H145M becoming a pivotal asset in Belgium’s defense and security strategies.
The H145M itself boasts a wide array of mission capabilities, capable of swift reconfiguration from a light attack role with advanced weapons and self-protection systems to specialized operations including rapid rappelling. Its mission packages encompass hoisting, external cargo transport, and future-ready features such as enhanced data links and digital mission capabilities.
Derived from the well-established H145 civilian model, the H145M leverages a global legacy of over seven million flight hours across its family. It is relied upon by armed forces and law enforcement agencies worldwide for its reliability in demanding missions. Noteworthy users include Germany, operating both H145M LUH SOF and H145 LUH SAR variants, and the US Army with a substantial fleet under the UH-72 Lakota designation.
Powered by Turbomeca Arriel 2E engines equipped with full authority digital engine control (FADEC), the H145M integrates the Helionix digital avionics suite. This suite features advanced flight data management and a high-performance 4-axis autopilot, significantly reducing pilot workload. Moreover, its exceptional acoustic profile sets the H145M apart as the quietest helicopter in its category, further enhancing its operational versatility and effectiveness.
With ongoing deployments in countries like Hungary, Serbia, Thailand, and Luxembourg, and upcoming deliveries to Cyprus, Brunei, and the United Kingdom, the H145M continues to set benchmarks in global military aviation.
