Amplify Cell Technologies Starts Building Mississippi Battery Factory

Amplify Cell Technologies, a joint venture between Accelera™ by Cummins, Daimler Trucks & Buses US Holding LLC, and PACCAR, has started construction on a new battery cell manufacturing plant in Marshall County, Mississippi. This venture also includes EVE Energy as a technology partner.

The 500-acre site will feature a two million-square-foot, energy-efficient facility with an annual production capacity of 21 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery cells. Battery cell production is set to begin in 2027, creating over 2,000 manufacturing jobs in the U.S.

Kel Kearns, CEO of Amplify, expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the partners’ commitment to decarbonizing transportation. The groundbreaking event was attended by leaders from Accelera, Daimler, PACCAR, as well as Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, and local officials.

The facility will produce LFP battery cells known for their durability and cost-effectiveness, strengthening the battery supply chain for the growing North American electric commercial vehicle market. The joint venture represents a $2 to $3 billion investment from Accelera, Daimler Truck, and PACCAR, with each owning 30% of Amplify Cell Technologies. EVE Energy, holding 10% ownership, brings its expertise in battery cell design and manufacturing.

Amplify Cell Technologies, a collaboration between Accelera™ by Cummins, Daimler Trucks & Buses US Holding LLC, and PACCAR, with EVE Energy as a technology partner, aims to localize battery cell production in the U.S. The company will produce LFP battery cells for electric commercial vehicles and industrial applications at its new facility in Marshall County, Mississippi, with production starting in 2027 and plans to create over 2,000 jobs.
