To ensure that students continue to engage in learning environments focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, Tenaris has invested $250,000 CAD in the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board’s (HSCDSB) STEAM Lab.
Located at the Holy Angels Learning Centre, the STEAM Lab is a unique space offering students of various grade levels the chance to explore career options in STEAM fields. It provides hands-on experiences, enabling students to explore the interconnections between science and technology.
“We are advocates of education, particularly in integrating STEM areas to strengthen critical thinking and encourage innovation and creativity,” said Martín Castro, Tenaris President in Canada.
Tenaris’s investment will go toward equipment, materials, and infrastructure updates. This includes painting the building’s exterior, installing a ramp to enhance accessibility, and hiring additional support staff for a full school year.
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the significant support we have received from Tenaris,” said HSCDSB Director of Education, Danny Viotto. “This substantial donation will not only enable us to continue offering our students dynamic, science-related experiences but also significantly enhance their real-world connection to STEAM. We are fortunate to have such a remarkable community partner to help us build upon this vision.”
“These funds will allow us to invest in newer technologies, provide 21st-century learning opportunities for our students, and ensure additional staff support for the lab,” said STEAM Lead Teacher Lorenzo DiCerbo. “Currently, we see roughly 1,400 to 1,500 students throughout the school year, and with Tenaris’s investment, we can expand our offerings and visits for students.”
In recent years, Tenaris’s community relations initiatives have focused on education as a means for personal and community growth. They aim to raise awareness and introduce students and young professionals to skilled trades and STEAM-related fields through training, infrastructure, and scholarships.
Every year, Tenaris awards Roberto Rocca Scholarships—formerly known as Merit Awards—in Sault Ste. Marie to students at both the Algoma District School Board and the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, recognizing them for their academic performance.
Additionally, Tenaris supports other initiatives such as the VEX Robotics program at the Algoma District School Board, where students build robots to compete in obstacle-style competitions at the regional level, with the opportunity to advance to national competitions.
