STMicroelectronics Introduces ST25TA-E NFC Tag IC with Enhanced Security Features STMicroelectronics has unveiled its latest ST25TA-E NFC tag IC, featuring the innovative TruST25™ Edge on-chip digital signature mechanism. This state-of-the-art technology strengthens the security of digital product passports and blockchain-based applications.
The TruST25 Edge utilizes elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) within an advanced asymmetric cryptographic engine embedded in the ST25TA-E. This on-chip digital signature ensures the authenticity of attached physical objects, providing comprehensive protection against counterfeit and gray market activities.
Ideal for luxury brands and high-value products like designer clothing, accessories, and artwork, the ST25TA-E enables seamless consumer engagement. NFC-enabled smartphones can track product journeys through the supply chain, verifying individual product provenance and facilitating security auditing.
Moreover, the combination of enhanced authentication and on-chip user memory allows brand owners to deliver personalized consumer experiences. Customers can easily interact with the tag using their smartphones to access content, engage with the brand online, and securely register and transfer ownership.
In blockchain-based applications, the TruST25 Edge ECC-based signature ensures data immutability and transparency, enhancing overall security.
Additional features of the ST25TA-E include password protection for partial and whole memory, permanent file locking, anonymous mode for consumer privacy, and support for Augmented NFC data exchange format (NDEF) for convenient data transfer via smartphones.
With pricing starting from $0.325 for orders of 1000 pieces, the ST25TA-E offers enhanced security at a competitive price point. Samples are currently available, with volume production scheduled to commence in August 2024.
ST will showcase the ST25TA-E NFC tag at RFID Journal Live, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, from April 9-11, 2024, at booth 511.
