LibertyStream Reports Commercial Progress With Potential Lithium Demand Reaching 9,100 Tonnes Annually by 2028
LibertyStream Infrastructure Partners Inc. (TSXV: LIB | OTCQB: VLTLF | FSE: I2D) has provided an operational and commercial update, highlighting progress in lithium carbonate production, customer qualification, potential offtake demand, and financing discussions to support the development of its lithium production facilities in Texas.
Since May 2026, the company has been extracting and refining lithium carbonate at its Freedom Launchpad facility in Texas, which operates using the complete Freedom 1 process flow. Several prospective customers have either validated the company’s lithium carbonate product or are continuing their evaluation processes.
LibertyStream reported potential demand of approximately 9,100 tonnes per annum by 2028 across discussions with seven prospective customers. This figure includes 600 tonnes per annum covered by the company’s previously announced offtake agreement. The company also indicated that potential demand could increase to as much as 20,000 tonnes annually, subject to customer requirements and the successful expansion of production capacity.
The update reflects LibertyStream’s efforts to advance its commercial relationships while progressing construction of its Freedom 1 facility and pursuing financing to support future development.
Lithium Carbonate Production Supports Customer Qualification
LibertyStream said it has been producing lithium carbonate at its Texas-based Freedom Launchpad facility since May 2026. The facility runs the full Freedom 1 process flow, allowing the company to demonstrate its extraction and refining capabilities while supplying material for prospective customer evaluations.
According to the company’s August 24, 2026 production update, every full certificate of analysis issued between May 14 and August 14, 2026, reported lithium carbonate purity of at least 99.7%. Production was also reported to meet customer-specific specifications.
The reported purity levels are an important element of the company’s commercial development efforts, as prospective buyers typically evaluate product quality and consistency before entering into long-term supply agreements.
LibertyStream has delivered product samples for evaluation to a U.S. battery manufacturer serving defence customers and to the University of North Dakota for research involving military drone batteries. These evaluations provide opportunities to assess the material for potential applications in specialized battery systems and other industrial markets.
The company is targeting a range of end markets, including glass manufacturing, ceramics, welding, cathode production, electric vehicles, energy storage, and U.S. defence applications. This range of potential customers could provide flexibility in allocating future production across different market segments, depending on qualification outcomes, demand, and commercial terms.
However, customer evaluations and discussions do not necessarily translate into confirmed sales. Prospective buyers must complete their qualification processes and, where applicable, enter into definitive supply agreements before potential demand can be treated as contracted business.
Potential Customer Demand Reaches 9,100 Tonnes Annually
LibertyStream is currently engaged in offtake discussions with seven prospective customers across several industrial and battery-related markets.
Based on volumes indicated during these discussions, the company estimates potential demand of approximately 9,100 tonnes of lithium carbonate per year by 2028. This figure includes 600 tonnes per annum under an existing offtake agreement. LibertyStream has also identified the possibility of demand increasing to as much as 20,000 tonnes annually.
The discussions range in progress from requests for proposals to negotiations over definitive contractual documentation. Except for the previously announced offtake agreement, the discussions remain non-binding and do not represent contracted sales.
Realizing the potential volumes will depend on several factors, including the successful completion of customer qualification procedures, execution of definitive offtake agreements, access to additional financing on acceptable terms, and receipt of required approvals.
The company will also need to construct, commission, and operate substantial additional production capacity beyond its planned Freedom 1 and Freedom 2 facilities to meet demand at the levels being discussed.
Each of the anticipated Freedom 1 and Freedom 2 facilities is designed to produce up to 1,000 tonnes of battery-grade and technical-grade lithium carbonate annually. Accordingly, the potential demand identified through customer discussions would require significant production expansion if it were to materialize in full.
The company has not indicated that all prospective demand is secured under binding contracts. Investors should therefore distinguish between existing contracted volumes and potential future demand that remains subject to commercial negotiations and operational execution.
Freedom 1 Construction Progresses in Texas
LibertyStream confirmed that construction of its Freedom 1 facility is underway in Texas and that all major process equipment has been purchased.
Freedom 1 is expected to provide the company’s initial commercial production capacity and support deliveries under its existing offtake agreement.
The company is currently targeting the start of its first commercial deliveries under that agreement in the second quarter of 2027.
The facility is a central component of LibertyStream’s near-term development strategy, providing a planned production base from which the company can pursue customer qualification, commercial supply arrangements, and potential future capacity expansion.
Successful execution will depend on completing construction, commissioning the equipment, achieving reliable operating performance, and meeting customer and regulatory requirements.
The company’s production activities at Freedom Launchpad are intended to support these efforts by demonstrating the process flow and supplying material for customer testing while the commercial facility advances.
Financing Discussions With Endurance Extended Through November 14
LibertyStream and Endurance Finance Partners Ltd. have mutually agreed to extend their exclusivity period through November 14, 2026, under a non-binding financing term sheet announced on September 3, 2026.
The proposed financing contemplates funding of up to US$95 million for Freedom 1, Freedom 2, and potentially additional production sites.
The extension provides additional time for the parties to align definitive financing documentation with LibertyStream’s capital plan and the construction schedule for Freedom 1.
Securing financing is an important consideration as the company advances its planned facilities and evaluates the potential to increase production capacity in response to prospective customer demand.
The proposed financing remains subject to due diligence, execution of definitive agreements, agreement on an investment commitment from the company, required approvals, and other closing conditions. Financing for future sites would also require separate approval.
LibertyStream cautioned that there can be no assurance definitive agreements will be executed or that the proposed funding will ultimately be provided.
Until the financing is finalized, the proposed amount should be viewed as a potential funding arrangement rather than completed financing.
Outlook: Commercial Opportunities and Production Expansion
LibertyStream’s latest update highlights three areas of development: lithium carbonate production and product qualification, discussions with prospective customers, and progress toward financing and construction of its commercial facilities.
The reported minimum purity of 99.7% on full certificates of analysis issued during the specified May-to-August period provides information on product quality, while customer evaluations could help the company pursue additional commercial agreements.
Potential demand of 9,100 tonnes annually by 2028, with possible growth to 20,000 tonnes, represents an opportunity that remains dependent on customer qualification, binding contracts, and the availability of sufficient production capacity.
Meanwhile, construction at Freedom 1 and the proposed financing with Endurance are important milestones in LibertyStream’s plans to establish commercial lithium carbonate production in Texas.
The company’s near-term priorities include advancing Freedom 1 toward its targeted first commercial deliveries in the second quarter of 2027, progressing customer qualification and offtake negotiations, and working toward a definitive financing arrangement.
As these initiatives progress, the distinction between prospective demand, contracted supply, planned production capacity, and secured financing will remain important in assessing LibertyStream’s commercial development.
