AIHA Announces 2026–2027 Board of Directors to Lead Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety Initiatives
The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), one of the leading professional organizations dedicated to occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS), has officially welcomed its newly elected 2026–2027 Board of Directors. The induction took place during the association’s annual business meeting held at AIHA Connect 2026 in New Orleans, Louisiana, bringing together professionals, industry experts, and organizational leaders committed to advancing workplace health and safety.
The newly installed Board will begin its leadership term by participating in its first Strategic Planning Meeting in July in Houston, Texas, the host city for AIHA Connect 2027. As workplace environments continue to evolve through technological advancements, changing regulations, emerging health risks, and new workforce expectations, the Board will play a critical role in guiding the association’s strategic direction and strengthening its mission to protect workers and communities worldwide.
Leadership Team for 2026–2027
The AIHA Board of Directors is composed of experienced professionals representing diverse sectors of occupational and environmental health and safety. These leaders bring extensive expertise in industrial hygiene, environmental management, risk assessment, workplace safety, public health, and regulatory compliance.
The officers serving on the 2026–2027 Board include:

Supporting the Mission of Worker Health and Safety
AIHA’s leadership transition comes at a time when occupational health and safety professionals are addressing increasingly complex workplace challenges. Organizations around the world are navigating issues related to emerging technologies, environmental sustainability, workforce wellbeing, chemical exposure management, mental health, and evolving regulatory requirements.
According to AIHA Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Sloan, the newly elected Board members bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will strengthen the organization’s ability to respond to these challenges.
“Every member of AIHA’s Board of Directors brings a distinct set of perspectives and experiences,” Sloan said. “Their insight, expertise, commitment, and enthusiasm strengthen our mission to advance and safeguard worker health, and they will play a vital role as we navigate the ever-changing landscape of occupational health and safety.”
The Board’s work will support AIHA’s long-standing objective of helping organizations create safer and healthier workplaces through science-based practices, professional education, technical guidance, and industry collaboration.
Recognizing the Contributions of Outgoing Leaders
As the organization welcomed new leadership, AIHA also recognized the significant contributions of several outgoing Board members who completed their terms of service.
Sloan expressed gratitude to former Past President Nicole M.H. Greeson, MS, CIH; former Treasurer Lucinette Alvarado Rivera, CIH; and former Director-at-Large John R. Moore III, CIH, CSP. Their leadership and dedication have helped shape the association’s programs, strategic initiatives, and professional resources.
“Our Board members generously dedicate significant time and effort throughout their service, and we are deeply appreciative,” Sloan said. “Their contributions to AIHA will leave a lasting impact on our organization and help advance the health and safety of workers and communities worldwide.”
The outgoing leaders played important roles in guiding AIHA through a period marked by rapid workplace transformation and growing attention to worker health, exposure risks, and environmental responsibility.
Bryan Seal Elected Vice President
Among the newly elected officers, Bryan Seal, PhD, CIH, CSP, CHMM, REHS, has been selected to serve as Vice President. Seal brings extensive experience in occupational health and safety education, research, and professional leadership.
His history of involvement with AIHA includes serving as a Director-at-Large and contributing to numerous committees and advisory groups. Over the years, he has participated in the Principles of Good Practice Advisory Group, the Content Priorities Advisory Group, and the Academic Advisory Group. He also chaired the Exposure Banding Committee, which focuses on improving occupational exposure assessment methodologies.
Seal has made significant contributions to AIHA’s educational and technical publications. He helped develop the influential publication “Core Competencies: For the Practice of Industrial/Occupational Hygiene” and has authored multiple articles for The Synergist, AIHA’s professional publication.
Professionally, Seal serves as Associate Professor and Assistant Chair in the Safety Sciences and Environmental Engineering Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His academic background and practical expertise position him to help guide AIHA’s future educational and professional development initiatives.
Carra Herring Joins as Director-at-Large
Carra Herring, CIH, CSP, has been elected to serve as a Director-at-Large. Herring has demonstrated strong leadership within AIHA and its local professional communities.
From 2020 to 2024, she held several leadership positions within the Carolinas AIHA Local Section, including Secretary, Vice President, and President. Her service helped strengthen local engagement and professional networking opportunities for occupational health and safety practitioners across the region.
Herring is also an active member of AIHA’s Women in Industrial Hygiene Committee, which promotes leadership development, mentoring, and professional growth within the industry.
Outside of AIHA, Herring serves as Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health Manager at Martin Marietta, where she oversees programs focused on workplace exposure management, employee health protection, and regulatory compliance. Her industry experience provides valuable insights into the practical challenges organizations face in maintaining safe and healthy work environments.
Spencer Pizzani Brings Technical Expertise to the Board
Another newly elected Director-at-Large is Spencer Pizzani, CIH, DOSH, a recognized expert in industrial hygiene, data analytics, and exposure assessment.
Pizzani has been actively involved in several AIHA initiatives, including serving as Secretary of the Real Time Detection Systems Committee. He also contributes to the Improving Exposure Judgments Advisory Group and the Big Data, Sensor Technology, and Artificial Intelligence Working Group.
His work reflects the growing importance of advanced technologies in occupational health and safety. By leveraging data analytics, sensors, and AI-driven tools, organizations can gain deeper insights into workplace exposures and improve risk management strategies.
Pizzani also led the team responsible for developing the “Susceptible Worker Protection” technical framework, which provides guidance for protecting workers who may face elevated health risks due to specific vulnerabilities.
In addition, he is the lead author of two peer-reviewed Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (JOEH) articles focused on the ATHENA heuristic, an algorithm designed to analyze time-series exposure data. He has also contributed to several AIHA technical guidance documents, including the widely used “Guidance on Use of Direct Reading Instruments.”
Professionally, Pizzani serves as Global Industrial Hygiene Program Manager at PepsiCo, where he oversees occupational health initiatives across international operations.
