Epiroc Begins Construction of New India Production & R&D Facility

Epiroc is set to expand its footprint in India with the construction of a new, state-of-the-art production and research & development (R&D) facility in Nashik. This strategic move underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, local manufacturing, and meeting the growing demands of the mining and construction industries both within India and globally. Spanning approximately 175,000 square meters, the facility is designed to become a hub for the development, prototyping, and production of advanced underground and surface equipment.

The new Nashik site will feature a comprehensive infrastructure, including manufacturing buildings, a prototyping workshop, an R&D laboratory, office spaces, and an outdoor test track dedicated to rigorous equipment testing. Epiroc aims to commence operations by the third quarter of 2026, with phased development plans that will further enhance the site’s capabilities over the coming years. This investment represents a significant scale-up in production capacity and innovation potential for Epiroc in India.

Helena Hedblom, President and CEO of Epiroc, emphasized the strategic importance of this facility, stating, “The new facility in Nashik is a key step in further expanding our presence in the growing and very important Indian market, and it will also support our customers globally.” This statement reflects Epiroc’s dual focus on catering to the specific needs of the Indian market while maintaining its position as a global leader in mining and construction technology.

Epiroc already operates several production and innovation centers across India, including facilities in Nashik and Hyderabad. The company employs roughly 1,750 people in India, with a significant portion dedicated to R&D. Earlier this year, Epiroc expanded its manufacturing capabilities for rock drilling tools at its Hyderabad site, and in 2024, it opened a new innovation and technology center in the same city. These initiatives collectively demonstrate Epiroc’s ongoing commitment to deepening its technological expertise and manufacturing excellence in India.

The Nashik expansion will create approximately 200 new direct jobs, boosting the local workforce from the current 280 employees at the site. This growth not only supports the local economy but also strengthens Epiroc’s ability to serve the Indian market more effectively with locally developed and manufactured products.

Arunkumar Govindarajan, President of Epiroc India, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s potential impact, saying, “We are excited about this further expansion in India, where we see significant growth potential. We look forward to continuing to be the productivity and sustainability partner for our local and global customers through this investment. The new facility also supports our ‘Make in India’ initiatives.” This reflects Epiroc’s alignment with Indian government policies aimed at boosting local manufacturing and technological self-reliance.

Epiroc is widely recognized as a global productivity partner for mining and infrastructure sectors. The company accelerates the transformation toward a sustainable society by developing and providing cutting-edge, safe, and efficient equipment. Their product portfolio includes drill rigs, rock excavation and construction machinery, and tools designed for both surface and underground applications. Additionally, Epiroc offers comprehensive aftermarket services and solutions in automation, digitalization, and electrification — all designed to enhance productivity and reduce environmental impact.

Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, Epiroc reported revenues of approximately SEK 64 billion in 2024 and employs around 19,000 people worldwide. The company operates in roughly 150 countries, providing advanced solutions that support its customers’ operational needs while promoting sustainability and innovation.

The new Nashik facility marks a significant milestone in Epiroc’s journey in India. With its blend of advanced manufacturing capabilities, innovation-driven R&D, and a focus on sustainability and local economic development, this site is expected to become a cornerstone of Epiroc’s growth strategy in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets. By strengthening its presence and investing heavily in local infrastructure and talent, Epiroc aims to support India’s mining and construction sectors with cutting-edge technology tailored to meet evolving challenges.
