Hyundai Motor Showcases Hydrogen Vision and All-New NEXO at ESWC 2025 in Seoul
Hyundai Motor Company has taken the global stage at the 13th World Congress of the Econometric Society (ESWC 2025), hosted at COEX in Seoul, to highlight its long-term commitment to a hydrogen-powered future. The automaker is presenting its comprehensive hydrogen vision while also unveiling the all-new NEXO, its flagship fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), as part of a broad exhibition that underscores the company’s leadership in clean mobility solutions.
Highlighting Hydrogen as a Key Driver of Sustainable Energy
At this premier gathering of international economic and academic leaders, Hyundai Motor is drawing attention to the critical role hydrogen will play in the global energy transition. By showcasing hydrogen innovations under its dedicated hydrogen brand and business platform, HTWO, the company is reinforcing its mission to develop and expand the hydrogen ecosystem.
HTWO, launched as Hyundai Motor Group’s global hydrogen brand, integrates the Group’s expertise across every stage of the hydrogen value chain—from production and storage to transportation and end use. At ESWC 2025, the platform is being positioned as more than just a business brand; it is evolving into an open, collaborative platform that connects industry stakeholders, fosters partnerships, and accelerates investment in hydrogen infrastructure worldwide.
The All-New NEXO: Redefining Hydrogen Mobility
The centerpiece of Hyundai’s showcase is the all-new NEXO, revealed in its first full redesign in seven years. Long recognized as one of the world’s leading hydrogen-powered SUVs, the new model embodies Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” design philosophy, which emphasizes both strength and elegance in form. The vehicle is distinguished by its futuristic styling, signature ‘HTWO’ lamps, and aerodynamic silhouette that reflects both performance and sustainability.
From a technical perspective, the all-new NEXO represents a major leap forward. It offers a targeted driving range of more than 700 kilometers, making it one of the most capable FCEVs on the market. With a total system output of 190 kW, drivers can expect both efficiency and strong performance. Hyundai has also prioritized safety and environmental responsibility, introducing enhanced driver-assistance systems and sustainable interior materials that reduce the vehicle’s overall carbon footprint.
By showcasing the NEXO at ESWC 2025, Hyundai is signaling its ambition to keep hydrogen vehicles at the forefront of the clean mobility market while setting new benchmarks for range, efficiency, and eco-friendly design.
Expanding the Hydrogen Ecosystem: Beyond Passenger Cars
Hyundai’s exhibition goes beyond passenger vehicles, emphasizing how hydrogen technologies can transform multiple sectors of transportation and industry. Visitors at the event experienced a broad portfolio of hydrogen applications, including visual content and models that illustrate Hyundai’s long-term roadmap for a sustainable hydrogen society.
Among the featured technologies are the biogas-based hydrogen extraction system at the waste-to-hydrogen plant in Chungju and the electrolysis-based hydrogen production facility in Buan. These projects demonstrate Hyundai’s integrated approach, linking renewable energy, waste recycling, and hydrogen generation to create a circular energy economy.
The company also showcased its lineup of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, including the XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck, as well as the Elec City and Universe Fuel Cell buses. These models represent Hyundai’s efforts to decarbonize logistics and public transportation, sectors that are traditionally dependent on fossil fuels. Together, they highlight Hyundai’s strategy of building a comprehensive hydrogen mobility ecosystem that spans both consumer and commercial markets.
A Global Academic Stage for Sustainability
The World Congress of the Econometric Society is one of the most prestigious international gatherings in economics and is held only once every five years. As Korea takes on the role of host nation for the 2025 edition, Hyundai Motor is leveraging the platform to align its corporate sustainability strategy with global discussions on economic development, climate change, and energy innovation.
By participating in ESWC 2025, Hyundai underscores the economic and environmental value of hydrogen technologies. The company’s presence reflects not only its role as an automotive leader but also as a key contributor to global sustainability efforts, bridging the gap between industrial innovation and academic research.
Accelerating the Hydrogen Society
Looking ahead, Hyundai Motor Group is accelerating its transition to a hydrogen society through HTWO and its ongoing investments in hydrogen innovation. The Group envisions hydrogen as a clean, versatile, and scalable energy source that can power vehicles, industries, and entire communities. Its roadmap includes the continued expansion of hydrogen production facilities, wider deployment of fuel cell systems, and collaboration with global partners to advance infrastructure and policy development.
“Hydrogen is not just a fuel of the future—it is a practical and scalable solution for today’s global energy challenges,” Hyundai stated in connection with the exhibition. “Through HTWO and pioneering vehicles like the all-new NEXO, we are accelerating the transition toward a sustainable hydrogen economy.”
