XPENG Expands African Presence with Strategic Partnerships in Morocco and Tunisia
XPENG, one of China’s most innovative high-tech electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, has officially taken another step forward in its international expansion strategy. The company announced that it has signed strategic cooperation agreements with leading automotive distributor groups in both Morocco and Tunisia, reinforcing its ambition to become a major player in the African mobility landscape.
This announcement follows XPENG’s earlier success in Egypt, where it entered the market in 2024 and quickly gained recognition, even securing the “2025 Egypt Electric Vehicle Award.” With its footprint now stretching across three North African nations—Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia—XPENG has established a solid foundation for further growth and positioned itself strategically to extend operations deeper into the sub-Saharan African market.
A Green Revolution Sweeping North Africa
From Cairo to Casablanca, XPENG’s intelligent EVs symbolize more than just cutting-edge technology—they represent a green mobility revolution taking shape across the region. As African governments increasingly emphasize sustainability and carbon reduction, demand for EVs has been rising. XPENG’s expansion signals how Chinese EV manufacturers are aligning with these goals, offering affordable, tech-driven, and environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional vehicles.
Strategic Partnership in Tunisia: XP CARS
In Tunisia, XPENG has partnered with XP CARS Tunisia, a leading automotive dealer group with extensive experience in successfully introducing and establishing new car brands in the market. Known for its robust customer service reputation, XP CARS operates a nationwide sales and service network, ensuring that XPENG vehicles will be supported by strong after-sales infrastructure.
The dealer’s business philosophy—centered on providing complete service guarantees and long-term customer trust—mirrors XPENG’s own commitment to quality and consumer satisfaction. This alignment makes the partnership not just a commercial transaction but also a strategic collaboration built on shared values.
Strategic Partnership in Morocco: SMEIA
Meanwhile, in Morocco, XPENG has chosen to team up with SMEIA Group, one of the country’s most prominent automotive distributor groups. SMEIA has more than four decades of experience representing global luxury brands and holds over 30% market share in Morocco’s high-end automotive sector.
Its nationwide reach covers more than 97% of Morocco’s population, supported by an extensive sales and service network. For XPENG, SMEIA’s expertise and established reputation create a strong launchpad for entering one of Africa’s largest automotive manufacturing and consumer markets. SMEIA will dedicate an independent brand team to XPENG operations, ensuring customers receive premium service standards alongside cutting-edge EV technology.
Building a Market Chain Along the Mediterranean
The addition of Morocco and Tunisia means XPENG has now established a continuous presence along the North African Mediterranean coast. Together with Egypt, this triangular market network offers a comprehensive platform for future growth, stretching from the western edge of the Sahara Desert to the Suez Canal.
This coastal presence also creates an ideal springboard for future expansion into sub-Saharan Africa, where countries like South Africa and Kenya are expected to become major EV growth markets in the years ahead.
Africa’s Role in XPENG’s Global Strategy
Speaking on the occasion, Wang Ke, General Manager of XPENG’s Middle East and Africa region, emphasized Africa’s importance within the company’s broader strategy.
“Africa is one of the key pieces of our global strategy. Morocco, as one of Africa’s largest automobile producers, has a mature automotive industry chain; Tunisia, with its geographic location close to Europe, serves as a vital hub connecting African and European markets. Together with Egypt, our coverage along the North African coast forms a strong and comprehensive market base for the future,” Wang Ke stated.
Early Success in Egypt
XPENG’s African journey began in June 2024, when it entered Egypt in partnership with RAYA Auto. The company launched two flagship models—the G9 SUV and the P7 sedan—targeting tech-savvy and environmentally conscious consumers. The move quickly paid off, as XPENG vehicles topped Egypt’s EV registration rankings in certain months.
In July 2025, XPENG’s performance was further validated when it received the “Electric Vehicle of the Year” award at the 7th Egyptian Annual Auto Awards, underscoring the brand’s growing recognition and consumer trust.
Looking Toward the Future
XPENG’s African expansion is part of a much larger global vision. The company has already outlined its ambition to deepen its presence in Europe, ASEAN, the Middle East, Latin America, and Oceania. Africa, however, stands out as a unique frontier with both immediate opportunities and long-term growth potential.
XPENG’s “Red Carpet Program”, aimed at strengthening service capabilities for local partners, will be extended to Morocco and Tunisia. Through this initiative, XPENG intends not only to sell cars but also to develop long-lasting after-sales and service infrastructures that can win consumer loyalty over time.
“The African market has huge potential and unique needs,” added Wang Ke. “We are confident in our ability to meet those needs by working with strong local partners and by introducing more intelligent, green products that can bring the best smart mobility experience to African consumers.”
A Vision of Intelligent, Sustainable Mobility
As awareness of climate change and sustainable practices grows, African governments and consumers alike are looking for solutions that combine innovation with eco-friendliness. XPENG’s vision of zero-carbon, intelligent mobility has resonated strongly across North Africa, positioning the company as a pioneer in the region’s emerging EV landscape.
By bringing together advanced AI-driven vehicle technologies, local partnerships, and a commitment to green energy, XPENG is not only selling cars but also contributing to a larger transformation. Its growing presence in Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia represents more than business expansion—it marks the beginning of a new era of mobility across Africa.
