Realtime Robotics, a leader in collision-free autonomous motion planning for industrial robots, has announced the appointment of Ville Lehtonen as the company’s new Vice President of Product. Lehtonen brings a wealth of experience in technology, product development, and leadership to the role, having most recently served as Head of Product at Pickle Robot. During his tenure at Pickle, Lehtonen played a key role in propelling the robotics company to a leading position in the truck and container loading and unloading industry.
Ville’s impressive track record in robotics and product innovation makes him an ideal fit for this role,” said Kevin Carlin, Chief Commercial Officer at Realtime Robotics. “Our Optimization solution is already driving productivity and reducing cycle times for several manufacturing companies. With Ville’s expertise, we look forward to enhancing our product offering and expanding its impact across the manufacturing and logistics sectors.
Before his role at Pickle, Lehtonen served as Head of Product at HighRes Biosolutions, a company specializing in laboratory automation software. He also co-founded and served as the CEO of LabMinds Ltd., a laboratory automation firm. His diverse experience, spanning product development, leadership, and the robotics industry, has equipped him with a unique skill set to support Realtime Robotics’ ongoing growth. Lehtonen holds a BS and an MS in Computer Science from Helsinki University of Technology, as well as an MBA from Oxford University.
I’m thrilled to join Realtime Robotics at a time when the company is making tremendous strides in optimizing industrial robotics, said Lehtonen. “The potential to enhance already highly automated production lines is significant, and I look forward to helping manufacturers become even more efficient and cost-effective with Realtime’s Optimization technology. By reducing cycle times and improving overall productivity, we’re confident that we can save manufacturers tens of thousands of hours in their industrial robotics projects.”
Lehtonen also highlighted the broader potential of Realtime’s technology to revolutionize automation. What Realtime is doing is a massive shift in how automation is deployed, he explained. “This will be extremely valuable for existing large-scale manufacturers, but even more exciting is how it will unlock new opportunities for smaller companies that have previously been unable to adopt robotics due to cost or complexity. Realtime’s technology stack has the potential to do for kinematics what real-time object detection frameworks like YOLO [You Only Look Once] have done for computer vision, lowering the barriers to entry and opening up robotics to a wider range of businesses.”
Realtime Robotics’ Optimization solution leverages proprietary software combined with the insights of experienced robotics and application engineers to dramatically improve manufacturing productivity. The solution works by analyzing a customer’s digital twin to identify bottlenecks and recommend targeted improvements, all without disrupting ongoing production efforts. This advanced optimization allows manufacturers to fine-tune their processes and enhance efficiency, ensuring that their robotic systems are working at peak performance.
