The new laboratory, which will be built in Germany, will expand the company’s regional EMC and wireless testing capabilities to include large-scale industrial plants and equipment as well as medical, consumer and automotive products, while also promoting the company’s European growth strategy.
UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science, has announced a significant expansion of its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and wireless testing capabilities with the development of a new state-of-the-art laboratory in Germany. The facility is designed to support testing and certification for a wide range of products, from large industrial machinery to medical devices, consumer electronics, and automotive components.
The new laboratory is being constructed on UL Solutions’ existing campus in Neu-Isenburg, a designated Center of Excellence located approximately 12 kilometers south of Frankfurt am Main. This campus already hosts several advanced safety and performance testing facilities. The addition of the new lab will not only broaden the scope of services available but also strengthen the site’s role as a major European hub for EMC and wireless compliance testing. The facility’s infrastructure plan includes multiple large-format test chambers and a building layout engineered for future expansions to meet growing industry demands.
This investment closes a regional gap in large-scale EMC testing, which previously forced some manufacturers to have tests conducted outside this region,” said Morten Lassen, Regional Vice President for EMEA at UL Solutions. “By expanding our testing and certification services in the industrial heart of Germany, we are creating a comprehensive testing facility – right where our customers need it.”
The new site will provide specialized testing services that are increasingly in demand across Europe, particularly in sectors driving the energy transition, digital connectivity, and next-generation mobility. As regulatory frameworks continue to evolve, the laboratory will support manufacturers in achieving compliance while accelerating innovation and market access.
Among its key features, the facility will offer extensive testing and certification capabilities for larger and more complex equipment. This includes a 10-meter chamber designed to accommodate items up to 4 meters in length and weighing as much as 5 tons—an essential requirement for validating the performance and compliance of heavy industrial machinery. The laboratory will also offer comprehensive wireless testing services covering Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular and mobile networks, GPS, and RFID technologies, enabling manufacturers to meet global regulatory standards and interoperability requirements. Additional testing categories will include electrical and medical equipment, telecommunications systems, and automotive components such as radar sensors, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and infotainment modules.
Sustainability plays a central role in the laboratory’s design. Scheduled to be operational by mid-2027, the facility will be built as a green building featuring rooftop solar panels that will supply renewable energy to support daily operations. Advanced building technologies and a rainwater infiltration system—designed to return collected rainwater directly to the ground—will further enhance resource efficiency. The structure also complies with the latest German insulation standards to minimize energy consumption and reduce the overall carbon footprint.
Once complete, the new laboratory will house both commercial and technical teams, integrating seamlessly into UL Solutions’ global network of EMC and wireless testing sites spanning Asia, Europe, Mexico, the UK, and the United States. The expansion underscores UL Solutions’ commitment to supporting global manufacturers with reliable, accessible, and future-ready testing services in one of Europe’s most important industrial regions.
