U.S. Steel Honored as a Top Workplace for Disability Inclusion with High Disability Equality Index® Score

Today, U.S. Steel proudly announces another achievement of receiving a perfect score of 100 on the Disability Equality Index®, the foremost corporate benchmarking tool for disability equality. This marks the company’s fourth consecutive recognition as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.” By participating annually in the Index, U.S. Steel reaffirms its dedication to fostering inclusivity throughout its operations, recognizing the unique business advantages that arise from leveraging the talents of individuals identifying with disabilities.

“Our fourth consecutive recognition as a ‘Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion’ underscores U.S. Steel’s steadfast commitment to advancing full inclusion across our organization,” stated David B. Burritt, President and CEO of U.S. Steel. “This achievement reaffirms our determination to lead disability inclusion efforts within the corporate landscape, particularly significant as we approach the one-year mark since signing Disability’s CEO Letter on Disability Inclusion.”

Central to U.S. Steel’s Culture of Caring is the maintenance of inclusive workplaces where every team member feels valued, safe, and heard. Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) like SteelABILITY play a pivotal role in fostering awareness of disability-related issues and have significantly contributed to the company’s continuous recognition as a top employer for disability inclusion.

“We participate in the Disability Equality Index to measure and validate our ongoing efforts to achieve comprehensive inclusivity for individuals with disabilities,” noted Mona Dine, General Manager of Corporate Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer. “We are proud to announce our perfect score of 100 and commend the efforts of our SteelABILITY ERG, reinforcing our reputation as a company where Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) are integral to our business strategy.”

Administered annually by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and Disability, the Disability Equality Index serves as a robust assessment tool enabling companies to assess, improve, and gain recognition for their efforts towards disability inclusion. Supported by an advisory committee comprising business leaders, policy experts, and disability advocates, the Index aids businesses in effecting positive change by addressing unemployment and underemployment challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, thereby creating enduring value for employees and stakeholders alike.
