STMicroelectronics Unveils STM32-Ready IoT Modules with Qualcomm

STMicroelectronics, a global leader in semiconductor solutions catering to diverse electronics applications, has unveiled the first product from its strategic collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies. This partnership is focused on simplifying the development of next-generation wireless solutions for industrial and consumer IoT applications. By combining ST’s robust STM32 ecosystem with Qualcomm Technologies’ advanced wireless connectivity solutions, the collaboration aims to drive innovation and efficiency in IoT module development.

The newly launched ST67W611M1 module integrates Qualcomm’s QCC743 multiprotocol connectivity system-on-a-chip (SoC). This state-of-the-art SoC comes pre-loaded with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Thread support, enabling seamless integration with STM32 microcontrollers (MCUs) or microprocessors (MPUs). The module also supports the Matter protocol over Wi-Fi, ensuring future-proof connectivity and compatibility with the Matter ecosystem, which is gaining traction across smart devices.

The module is designed to simplify system integration, featuring:

  • 4MB of Flash Memory: Ideal for code and data storage.
  • 40MHz Crystal: Enhances module performance.

These measures meet PSA Certified Level 1 protection standards. Additionally, the module is pre-certified according to mandatory RF specifications, eliminating the need for users to have RF design expertise. Its self-contained design, packaged in a compact 32-lead LGA format, simplifies integration into PCBs, even with low-cost two-layer designs.

Leveraging the STM32 Ecosystem

The ST67W611M1 module is designed to fully utilize the capabilities of ST’s extensive STM32 ecosystem, which includes over 4,000 commercial part numbers and comprehensive STM32Cube tools and software. It also incorporates features tailored to edge AI development, such as the STM32N6 MCUs equipped with Neural-ART Accelerators and the ST Edge AI Suite for AI model optimization.

Developers can seamlessly integrate the module with STM32 MCUs or MPUs, which offer a wide range of options in terms of performance, power, and cost. These include entry-level devices powered by the Arm® Cortex®-M0+ core to high-performance devices with Cortex-M4 and Cortex-A7 cores found in the STM32MP1 and STM32MP2 MPUs.
