Stellantis Appoints 25-Year Company Veteran Antonio Filosa as New CEO

Stellantis Appoints Industry Veteran Antonio Filosa as New Chief Executive Officer, Ushering in a New Era of Global Leadership and Operational Focus

Stellantis N.V. today announced a pivotal leadership transition with the appointment of Antonio Filosa as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer. The decision follows an extensive search process conducted by the Board of Directors, involving a careful evaluation of both internal and external candidates. The selection process was spearheaded by a Special Committee of the Board led by Executive Chairman John Elkann and concluded with a unanimous decision to promote Filosa to the top executive role.

Filosa, a seasoned leader with more than 25 years of experience within Stellantis and its legacy companies, brings a wealth of industry knowledge, operational expertise, and a strong track record of performance in global markets. His appointment reflects the Board’s strategic focus on reinforcing leadership capabilities as Stellantis navigates a dynamic automotive landscape marked by electrification, digital transformation, and evolving consumer preferences.

Effective June 23, 2025, Antonio Filosa will assume the responsibilities of Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Carlos Tavares, who led the company through the initial post-merger phase and the launch of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. To ensure a seamless transition, the Board has granted Filosa full CEO powers ahead of the upcoming Extraordinary Shareholder Meeting, which will be convened in the coming days. During that meeting, shareholders will vote on his formal election to the Board as an executive director.

A Proven Global Leader

Antonio Filosa’s rise to the top role is grounded in his extensive and diverse leadership experiences within Stellantis, including successful tenures in both North and South America. Most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer for the Americas, Filosa has been instrumental in reinvigorating Stellantis’ U.S. operations. His actions have included streamlining dealer inventory levels, initiating new product introductions, realigning the regional leadership structure, and strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders such as dealers, suppliers, and labor unions.

His earlier tenure as Chief Operating Officer for South America was equally impactful. Under his guidance, the FIAT brand surged to a leading market position, while other brands under the Stellantis umbrella—including Peugeot, Citroën, Jeep®, and Ram—achieved significant growth. Filosa played a key role in reinforcing Stellantis’ market dominance across the region, leveraging a customer-centric approach and agile production strategies.

One of his most notable achievements during this time was overseeing the establishment of the Pernambuco manufacturing facility in Brazil. This plant rapidly emerged as one of South America’s largest and most advanced automotive hubs. It was also critical to the successful launch of the Jeep® brand in Brazil, which has since grown to become the brand’s second-largest market globally, behind only the United States.

As Jeep®’s global CEO, Filosa further expanded the brand’s international footprint, particularly in Europe, where models like the Jeep Avenger have become standout performers in Stellantis’ portfolio. His strategic insights and ability to lead across cultures and markets have equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and opportunities inherent in a global automotive business.

Board and Executive Endorsements

John Elkann, Executive Chairman of Stellantis, will continue in his current leadership role alongside Filosa. Commenting on the appointment, Elkann praised Filosa’s deep familiarity with the company, his people-first philosophy, and his ability to deliver results in challenging environments.

“Antonio’s deep understanding of our Company, including its people who he views as our core strength, and of our industry equip him perfectly for the role of Chief Executive Officer in this next and crucial phase of Stellantis’ development,” said Elkann. “I have worked closely with Antonio over the past six months during which time his responsibilities have increased, and his strong and effective leadership spanning both North and South America at a moment of unprecedented challenge have confirmed the excellent qualities he brings to the role. Together with the entire Board, I look forward to working with him.”

Robert Peugeot, Vice Chairman of the Stellantis Board, also welcomed the appointment, emphasizing the alignment between Filosa’s career accomplishments and the strategic demands of the CEO position.

“We unanimously welcome Antonio’s appointment as our new Chief Executive Officer,” said Peugeot. “His track record of successful leadership during his many years with our Company speaks for itself and this, together with his deep knowledge of our business and of the complex dynamics facing our industry, make him the natural choice to become Stellantis’ next CEO.”

Nicolas Dufourcq, CEO of Banque Publique d’Investissement (Bpifrance), which holds a significant stake in Stellantis, added: “The appointment of Antonio Filosa to lead Stellantis opens a new and important chapter for our Company. At a moment of transformation for the global automotive industry, Antonio Filosa has the knowledge, the experience, and the talent to lead Stellantis to new successes.”

A Vision for the Future

Filosa assumes the CEO role during a critical phase in Stellantis’ evolution. The company continues to advance its Dare Forward 2030 strategy, which centers on accelerating electrification, increasing software-driven revenue, and achieving carbon net-zero targets. Stellantis has also committed to investing over €50 billion in electrification initiatives over the coming decade, signaling a firm commitment to transforming its global vehicle lineup and operations.

Under Filosa’s leadership, the company is expected to sharpen its focus on performance execution, product excellence, and operational efficiency. Filosa is known for empowering teams and fostering collaboration across functions and regions—traits that are increasingly vital in a fast-paced, innovation-driven industry.

In a statement issued upon his appointment, Filosa expressed both humility and optimism, calling the opportunity to lead Stellantis a “great honor.”

“It is my great honor to be named the CEO of this fantastic Company,” said Filosa. “I am grateful to our Chairman, John Elkann, and to the members of our Board for their leadership, particularly in these recent months, and for the confidence they have placed in me to lead our business during this pivotal time for our industry. I have always been inspired by the immense talent, passion and commitment of our people at Stellantis and the power of trusting our teams to achieve excellence.”

He continued, “We have the world’s best and most iconic brands in automotive history and an over 100-year heritage of innovation. That legacy, combined with our relentless dedication to giving our customers the products and services they love, will continue to be key to our success.”

As he officially steps into the role on June 23, Filosa is expected to unveil a refreshed global leadership team. This new executive structure will aim to align with Stellantis’ strategic priorities, including the acceleration of electric vehicle production, enhanced regional market penetration, and deeper engagement with stakeholders across the value chain.

Filosa’s appointment also marks a new phase in Stellantis’ post-merger integration and long-term growth strategy. As the automotive industry undergoes one of the most transformative periods in its history, Stellantis is positioning itself to lead through innovation, agility, and a deep connection to its customer base across 130 countries.

With 14 iconic automotive brands—including Jeep, Ram, Fiat, Peugeot, Opel, Dodge, and Maserati—under its umbrella, and a growing emphasis on advanced technologies such as battery electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and software-defined vehicles, Stellantis is poised to remain a key player in shaping the future of mobility.

Antonio Filosa’s leadership, forged in decades of operational excellence and international success, is expected to play a central role in delivering that future.
