At the inaugural Sino-European Corporate ESG Best Practice Conference held in Frankfurt, Germany, Sinopec’s ESG case, titled “Empowering Green Development, Co-Creating a Zero-Carbon Future,” was awarded Best Environmental Protection Case. Selected from dozens of entries, the case highlighted Sinopec’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Walter Döring, Chairman of the German World Market Leaders Association, announced the results on behalf of the event’s organizing committee. He praised Sinopec’s comprehensive environmental management system, its innovative technologies, and its use of clean energies like geothermal hydrogen and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), all of which have led to substantial emissions reductions and green development.
The conference committee noted that Sinopec’s case serves as a strong example of green development practices, making it both valuable and informative as a reference. This earned Sinopec the Best Environmental Protection Case award.
During the conference, Sinopec spokesperson Yu Yongsheng emphasized the company’s role as a leading integrated energy and chemical corporation, as well as a key participant in the UN Global Compact. He reaffirmed Sinopec’s commitment to the brand’s core values: “Clean Energy, Better Life.”
Yu highlighted that Sinopec actively integrates ESG principles into its corporate strategy, embedding responsibility, innovation, and sustainability into its operations. This transformation of ESG from a conceptual framework into a strategic asset has strengthened the company’s position as a global leader in clean energy and chemical production.
As the world’s largest oil refining company and the second-largest producer of chemical products, Sinopec continues to enhance its ESG capabilities. The company remains committed to its mission of “fueling a better life” by striving for harmonious development between corporate growth and societal progress.
In response to the growing challenges posed by global climate change and energy security, Sinopec has bolstered its ESG governance, aggressively pursued green and clean development strategies, promoted energy transformation, and embraced electrified transportation trends. It has also consistently fulfilled its social responsibilities while improving corporate governance efficiency. Since 2007, Sinopec has published its corporate sustainability report for 18 consecutive years.
