Seven Seas Water Group and APUA Launch Barnacle Point Plant, Adding 2M IGPD to Antigua’s Desalination Capacity

Seven Seas Water Group and APUA Launch Barnacle Point Plant, Expanding Antigua’s Water-as-a-Service® Desalination Capacity by 2 Million IGPD

Barnacle Point Desalination Plant Officially Commissioned

The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) and Seven Seas Water Group (SSWG), a global provider of Water-as-a-Service® (WaaS®) solutions, announced the opening of the Barnacle Point Desalination Plant, a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) facility delivering 2 million imperial gallons per day (IMGD) to communities in Antigua’s northwest corridor and located adjacent to APUA’s Ivan Rodrigues Desalination Plant to efficiently leverage existing infrastructure.

Second Water-as-a-Service® Facility Strengthens Supply

The Barnacle Point plant is the second SWRO facility developed under the Water-as-a-Service® agreement signed in March 2024 between APUA and SSWG and follows the commissioning of the Ffryes Beach plant in early 2025, with both facilities together providing up to 3 million IMGD of reliable, high-quality drinking water, while production at Barnacle Point began in November 2025.

Government Emphasizes National Importance

The Honorable Melford Nicholas, Minister of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), Utilities and Energy, highlighted the project’s significance, stating that the facility strengthens water supply in a critical service area, reflects the Government of Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to solving long-standing water challenges, and demonstrates the power of resilient, sustainable, and future-ready infrastructure achieved through collaboration.

APUA Highlights Water Security and Local Capability

APUA CEO John Bradshaw noted that commissioning the Barnacle Point plant marks a major step in enhancing national water security by expanding capacity, integrating seamlessly with existing assets, supporting growing demand in the Northwest Corridor, building local technical expertise, and showcasing the strength and efficiency of the partnership with Seven Seas Water Group.

Seven Seas Water Group Underscores Partnership Impact

Seven Seas Water Group CEO Henry Charrabé stated that the project exemplifies how the Water-as-a-Service® model delivers reliable water supply while maximizing existing infrastructure, expressed appreciation for APUA’s collaboration, and reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable water solutions for Antigua.
