Reinhausen Manufacturing Announces Major South Side Expansion in Humboldt, TN to Advance Grid Innovation and Meet Growing Industry Demand
Reinhausen Manufacturing (RM), the American manufacturing arm of Germany-based Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen (MR), has announced an ambitious expansion of its existing facility in Humboldt, Tennessee. Dubbed the South Side Expansion, this strategic initiative is more than just a growth milestone for RM—it’s a significant step forward in the ongoing effort to modernize the aging U.S. power grid and address the increasing energy needs of high-demand industries, including data centers, renewable energy operations, and large-scale industrial users.
With a groundbreaking set for the summer of 2025 and a scheduled completion date of July 1, 2026, the South Side Expansion will add 12,000 square feet (1,100 square meters) of new production and office space to RM’s existing footprint in Humboldt. This major infrastructure investment is aimed at enhancing RM’s manufacturing capacity, streamlining operations, and supporting the rollout of advanced grid technologies that are essential for the energy transition currently underway in the United States and around the globe.
A Vision for a Resilient and Modern Power Grid
The decision to expand in Humboldt is rooted in RM’s long-term strategy to support the transformation of electric power infrastructure in North America. As utilities, technology firms, and energy providers continue to push for cleaner, smarter, and more resilient energy systems, RM’s equipment and solutions are playing a crucial role in enabling that evolution.
“This expansion is a testament to our dedication to our customers and the nationwide push for a stronger, more resilient power grid,” said Bob Vary, CEO and President of Reinhausen Manufacturing. “By investing in production and assembly capacity here in Humboldt, we are maintaining our focus on innovation and providing faster response times as demand surges across the energy landscape.”
In particular, the new space will support the production of the ETOS MD-IV platform, which is part of RM’s advanced portfolio of transformer monitoring and digitization systems. It will also allow the company to consolidate packaging operations, boosting internal efficiency and reducing supply chain friction. Moreover, the expansion will accommodate additional testing and production capacity for the RMV-II systems, which are vital components used in voltage regulation and grid control.

Meeting Demand Through 2030 and Beyond
As the U.S. energy grid grapples with increasing strain from renewable energy integration, electric vehicle adoption, and explosive growth in data usage, RM is positioning itself to be a key partner in this transformation. The South Side Expansion is designed not only to fulfill immediate needs but to provide production flexibility and readiness to handle projected market demands well into the next decade.
Industry analysts have pointed to a critical need for infrastructure investments, especially in grid modernization, to prevent energy bottlenecks and blackouts. RM’s proactive investment in manufacturing capacity directly aligns with these national imperatives.
“Energy demands are evolving quickly. Facilities like ours need to be just as agile,” Vary added. “We are not only responding to today’s challenges but also preparing to meet the needs of a dramatically different energy future. This expansion gives us the capability to scale rapidly and deliver cutting-edge solutions when and where they’re needed most.”
Strengthening RM’s Legacy in Humboldt and Supporting Local Growth
The South Side Expansion is also a story of continued investment in the Humboldt community and the broader West Tennessee region. RM has operated in Humboldt for decades, serving as a cornerstone of the local economy and a committed corporate citizen.
“This continued growth highlights the importance of our U.S. operations in the global effort to deliver reliable energy,” said Vary. “It also underscores our focus on strengthening domestic energy infrastructure while supporting the communities we’re a part of.”
RM expects the expansion to generate positive local economic effects through new job opportunities, increased business for local contractors and suppliers during the construction phase, and higher tax revenues that can support community services and infrastructure.
In addition to production space, the project includes expanded office accommodations to support increased staffing and enhanced collaboration among engineering, operations, and administrative teams. The company has emphasized that the design of the new space will prioritize sustainability, flexibility, and long-term scalability.
Supporting the National Push for Energy Security and Innovation
The announcement comes at a pivotal moment for the U.S. energy sector. With government incentives, such as those from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, fueling a nationwide surge in energy infrastructure projects, companies like RM are stepping up to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen, RM’s parent company, has been a global leader in grid technology since its founding in 1868. Headquartered in Regensburg, Germany, MR’s solutions help power half of the world’s electricity consumption, and the firm employs over 3,500 people across 45 subsidiaries worldwide.
RM’s presence in the U.S. is critical to MR’s global supply chain and strategic footprint. The Humboldt facility, alongside other locations in Charlotte, North Carolina; Fort Worth, Texas; and Mesa, Arizona, plays a vital role in delivering MR’s advanced transformer and grid automation technologies to North American customers.
By investing in U.S.-based manufacturing, RM helps reduce lead times, improve responsiveness, and strengthen supply chain resilience—all of which are increasingly important as grid investment ramps up nationwide.
Future-Proofing Energy Infrastructure
As digitalization reshapes every part of the energy sector—from predictive maintenance to remote grid monitoring—RM is doubling down on its commitment to innovation. The ETOS MD-IV and RMV-II platforms, supported by the Reinhausen South Side Expansion, represent the convergence of software and hardware in grid systems. These solutions provide utilities with real-time insights into transformer health and grid conditions, allowing for faster decision-making, improved reliability, and reduced operating costs.
“Digitization is no longer optional—it’s foundational to the future of energy,” said Vary. “We’re proud to be on the leading edge of this shift and to be contributing to the modernization of critical infrastructure here in the U.S.”
With construction slated to begin in the summer of 2025 and completion targeted for mid-2026, RM is already laying the Reinhausen groundwork to scale its workforce, enhance training programs, and engage with regional economic development partners to ensure the project’s success.
As the global energy landscape continues to evolve, RM’s South Side Expansion in Humboldt stands as a clear signal of its leadership, adaptability, and commitment to long-term value creation—for customers, communities, and the grid of tomorrow.
