In Osnabrück, a dynamic electric bus partnership is gaining momentum as SWO Mobil selects Daimler Buses to supply 19 state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz eCitaro electric buses. Scheduled for gradual delivery starting in 2025, these buses mark a significant stride towards sustainable urban transit.
The procurement of the fully electric and emissions-free eCitaro solo buses for Osnabrück’s public transport system follows a rigorous Europe-wide tender process. Rüdiger Kappel, Head of Sales Public Transport Germany at Daimler Buses, expresses enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to kick off the eCitaro electric bus partnership with SWO Mobil. This order underscores our commitment to advancing electrified mobility in both German and international urban landscapes.”
André Kränzke, Managing Director of SWO Mobil, echoes this sentiment, highlighting Daimler Buses’ expertise as a pivotal factor. “In Daimler Buses, we’ve found a highly capable partner,” Kränzke remarks. “With these new buses, we’re elevating our electric bus fleet to 94%, comprising 81 out of 86 vehicles.”
Each of the newly commissioned Mercedes-Benz electric buses boasts ample space for 69 passengers, featuring three entrance doors and a combination of seating and standing areas. Equipped with modern amenities, including USB charging sockets and a manually operated folding ramp for passengers with reduced mobility, these buses prioritize accessibility and comfort.
Furthermore, environmental considerations are at the forefront of design, with CO2-neutral air conditioning systems and LED lighting technologies ensuring a sustainable onboard experience. Safety features, compliant with the General Safety Regulation (GSR), include advanced assistance systems like Sideguard Assist 2 and Frontguard Assist, enhancing pedestrian and obstacle detection.
The buses’ impressive operating range of approximately 270 kilometers, facilitated by a total battery capacity of 491.5 kWh, is complemented by fast charging capabilities along Osnabrück’s regular-service routes. Charging occurs through depot charging at the Stadtwerke Osnabrück depot, ensuring seamless operations and minimizing environmental impact.
