Nordson BKG, FIMIC Launch Integrated Recycling at K 2025

Nordson BKG and FIMIC Unveil Integrated High-Capacity Polyolefin Recycling Solutions at K 2025

In response to the surging global demand for high-performance polyolefin recycling systems, Nordson BKG GmbH, part of Nordson Corporation’s Polymer Processing Systems division, has entered into a strategic partnership with FIMIC S.r.l.. Together, the two companies are introducing fully integrated solutions capable of processing 4.0 to 6.0 tons of post-consumer plastics per hour, setting a new benchmark for scalability and efficiency in polymer recycling.

This collaboration unites Nordson BKG’s expertise in gear pumps, valves, and underwater pelletizing systems with FIMIC’s advanced melt filtration technology. By combining these strengths, the joint systems directly address several of the most pressing challenges in the recycling industry, including feedstock variability, filtration inefficiencies, and costly production downtime. The result is a unified solution that ensures stable pressure control, superior filtration precision, and consistent pellet quality, even under the demanding conditions of high-throughput operations.

Modular System Architecture for Flexible Recycling Needs

A hallmark of the Nordson BKG–FIMIC partnership is the creation of a modular system architecture. Designed for maximum flexibility, the solution is available in three distinct configurations, each tailored to different production needs, throughput objectives, and maintenance strategies. This modularity allows recyclers to scale operations with confidence, while maintaining consistent product quality and minimizing downtime.

  1. DO-Line (Discontinuous Operation):
The most cost-effective option, the DO configuration requires a full line shutdown when the FIMIC melt filter undergoes screen changes. It is ideal for operations where budget sensitivity is a priority and intermittent production stoppages are acceptable.
  2. CO-Line (Continuous Operation):
Engineered for greater efficiency, the CO configuration features dual diverter valves that allow screen changes on one filter while the other remains operational. This ensures that throughput continues at up to 75% capacity during filter transitions, thereby reducing downtime significantly compared to traditional systems.
  3. CFO-Line (Continuous Flexible Operation):
The most advanced and versatile configuration, the CFO setup incorporates two underwater pelletizers. This unique design enables one line to remain fully operational while the other undergoes service or maintenance. Beyond ensuring uninterrupted production, the CFO-Line also reduces investment and spare parts costs thanks to smaller gear pumps and pelletizing equipment.
Key Features of the Integrated Recycling Solution

The combined Nordson BKG and FIMIC system introduces several innovations that elevate recycling operations to new levels of efficiency and performance:

  • Complete Solution: From the twin-screw extruder’s adaptor flange through to the underwater pelletizer, the system provides seamless end-to-end integration.
  • High Throughput and Filtration Precision: Capable of achieving throughputs as high as 6 tons per hour with filtration fineness down to 100–150 microns, ensuring the removal of impurities without compromising material flow.
  • Automation and Efficiency: Intelligent pump controls, modular design, and minimal operator intervention help maximize uptime and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). A fully automated venting process further guarantees consistent pellet quality—even during filter changes—by eliminating potential product defects.
  • Thermal Stability: Advanced thermal management features, including mobile components and thermal elongation adaptors, maintain system reliability under the high temperatures common in large-scale recycling environments.
Customer-Centric Approach

A key differentiator of this partnership is the adoption of a “one face to the customer” approach. Instead of dealing with multiple suppliers or navigating potential interface issues, recyclers benefit from a single, unified point of contact. This streamlined process simplifies project execution, reduces communication challenges, and ensures faster integration of the technology into production lines.

To further support customers, Nordson BKG’s technical center in Münster, Germany, offers live demonstrations of the integrated systems. Here, visitors can witness firsthand how Nordson’s pelletizing and pump technologies synchronize seamlessly with FIMIC’s filtration units, reinforcing the value of this collaboration in delivering reliable, industrial-scale recycling solutions.

Driving the Circular Economy Forward

The Nordson BKG–FIMIC collaboration reflects both companies’ strong commitment to advancing sustainable, high-efficiency recycling technologies. By developing systems that enhance throughput, minimize waste, and maintain high product quality, the partnership empowers recyclers to meet increasingly strict quality and environmental standards.

As industries worldwide accelerate their transition toward a circular plastics economy, solutions like these play a critical role. By enabling recyclers to scale operations efficiently while maintaining cost control and consistency, Nordson and FIMIC are positioning themselves at the forefront of global efforts to close the plastics loop.

In unveiling these solutions at K 2025, the world’s leading trade fair for plastics and rubber, the companies are sending a clear message: the future of recycling lies in integration, automation, and collaboration. With the ability to process up to six tons of polyolefin waste per hour while maintaining uncompromising quality, Nordson BKG and FIMIC are helping redefine what is possible in large-scale polymer recycling.
