Mercedes-Benz Trucks Expands eActros Lineup with New eActros 400

Mercedes-Benz Trucks continues to strengthen its electric portfolio with the introduction of the new eActros 400, a battery-electric truck designed to complement the long-haul eActros 600. First unveiled at a press event in Molsheim, France, the eActros 400 represents an important expansion of the company’s range of electric heavy-duty trucks, offering fleet operators even more flexibility for long-distance and distribution haulage.

Since the launch of the eActros 600 in late 2024, Mercedes-Benz Trucks has established a viable alternative to diesel-powered transport in Europe. Now, with the addition of the eActros 400, the company is expanding its modular strategy, giving customers more choices in terms of range, payload, battery packs, cabs, and chassis configurations.

Expanding the eActros Model Family

The new eActros 400 is built on the same technology platform as the eActros 600, but with some key differences that make it a strong contender for customers seeking cost-efficient entry into electromobility.

  • eActros 400: Two battery packs, each 207 kWh, delivering a total installed capacity of 414 kWh.
  • eActros 600: Three battery packs with 621 kWh total capacity.

Both trucks will be offered as semitrailer tractors or platform chassis, depending on operational needs. Customers will also be able to choose between the familiar L-cab, designed for shorter routes and frequent entry, or the larger and aerodynamically optimized ProCabin, tailored for long-distance comfort.

This expanded modular approach results in more than 40 possible vehicle configurations, including multiple wheelbases and axle setups, ensuring transport companies can tailor the trucks precisely to their business requirements.

Key Features and Technology

Both the eActros 400 and 600 share the same innovative technology package that underpins the eActros series. This includes:

  • Electric drive axle developed in-house.
  • Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology with long service life and more than 95% usable capacity.
  • 800-volt onboard electrical system for greater efficiency.
  • Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) optimized for electric drives.
  • Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2 with voice control, real-time battery data, and EV-specific navigation.

Charging flexibility is another highlight. Both trucks can be charged up to 400 kW using CCS2 connections. Two battery packs can charge from 10% to 80% in just 46 minutes, while three packs require about 70 minutes. The eActros 600 with ProCabin will also support megawatt charging in the future, an important development for long-haul operations.

Performance and Range

The eActros 400 offers a maximum range of up to 480 kilometers in heavy-duty distribution haulage when partially loaded at 20°C. Its lighter weight compared to the 600 allows for additional payload capacity, reaching over 25 tons — putting it on par with diesel trucks.

The eActros 600 delivers a range of up to 560 kilometers in long-haul use under favorable conditions, making it the flagship option for extended transport routes.

Both models are powered by an integrated e-axle with two electric motors, producing 400 kW continuous output and 600 kW peak output, ensuring strong acceleration and smooth performance. Recuperation technology allows energy recovery during braking, improving efficiency and reducing brake wear.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Safety remains a cornerstone of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks philosophy. The eActros 400 and 600 come equipped with the MirrorCam system, replacing traditional mirrors with cameras to improve visibility and reduce blind spots. Integration with Active Sideguard Assist 2 enhances safety during cornering and complex traffic situations.

Additional driver assistance includes:

  • Active Brake Assist 6 for emergency braking.
  • Front Guard Assist for low-speed obstacle detection.
  • Active Drive Assist 3 supporting semi-automated driving.
  • Attention Assist 2 monitoring driver alertness with infrared cameras.

These systems benefit from a new electronics platform that processes data 20 times faster than previous generations, expanding sensor coverage to 270 degrees around the vehicle.

Sustainability and Climate Benefits

Switching to the eActros lineup delivers measurable CO₂ reductions. Depending on the power source used for charging, operators can achieve up to 40% lower emissions with the EU average electricity mix, or more than 80% CO₂ savings when powered exclusively by renewables.

For example, an eActros 600 with ProCabin can reduce emissions by up to 939 tons of CO₂ over a ten-year lifecycle compared to a diesel counterpart.

Digital Solutions and Services

To ensure seamless integration into fleets, Mercedes-Benz Trucks supports its electric vehicles with a suite of digital connectivity services.

  • TruckLive and My TruckPoint offer remote diagnostics, maintenance management, and live traffic updates.
  • The Remote Truck 3.0 app provides real-time updates on battery status and notifications.
  • Over-the-air updates keep vehicle software current without service visits.
  • Fleet managers gain access to intelligent charge management, digital logbooks, and performance analysis tools to maximize efficiency.
Supporting Infrastructure and Financing

Under the TruckCharge brand, Daimler Truck is also working on building a Europe-wide charging network with over 3,000 fast-charging points planned by 2030. Flexible financing and leasing models, such as eService Leasing, include guaranteed residual values, maintenance packages, and insurance options, reducing risk for operators transitioning to electric fleets.

Production and Portfolio Evolution

The eActros 400 will be produced alongside the 600 at the Wörth am Rhein plant, using the same assembly lines as conventional trucks for maximum efficiency. Other Daimler Truck plants in Mannheim, Kassel, and Gaggenau supply critical components such as electric axles and transmission parts.

This rollout marks the continued evolution of Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ electric portfolio, which began with the eActros 300/400 in 2021, followed by the eEconic in 2022, and now the second-generation eActros 600 and eActros 400.
