Mercedes-Benz do Brasil Unveils All-New Axor 2038 and 2545 Trucks Tailored for Brazilian and Latin American Markets

Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany / São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil — In a strategic move to enhance its presence in the South American heavy-duty truck segment, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil Ltda., a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck, has launched two new models in its celebrated Axor truck line: the Mercedes-Benz Axor 2038 4×2 and Axor 2545 6×2. These robust trucks are specifically engineered to cater to the demands of medium- and long-haul freight and logistics operations in Brazil and broader Latin America.

Designed with cutting-edge engineering and advanced drivetrain components, the new Axor models mark a significant step forward for the brand’s regional product portfolio. The trucks now incorporate BlueTec 6 technology, aligning them with the latest Euro 6 emissions standards, which recently came into effect in Brazil as part of the Proconve P8 regulations. This update ensures reduced emissions and more environmentally friendly operations — a priority for many fleets operating under new sustainability mandates.

Powerful New Engines and Efficient Drivetrain

At the heart of the new Axor trucks is the Mercedes-Benz OM 460 engine — a proven 13-liter inline-six diesel powerplant available in two power ratings: 380 horsepower in the Axor 2038 and 450 horsepower in the Axor 2545. This engine is known for its reliability and performance, making it ideal for the challenging terrains and extended distances common in South American logistics.

These models are also equipped with the 12-speed PowerShift 3 Advanced automated transmission, engineered for rapid gear changes and optimized fuel efficiency. The transmission enhances drivability while reducing fatigue on long hauls, helping drivers maintain consistent speed and performance over varying road conditions.

With Gross Combination Weight Ratings (GCWR) of 62 tons for the 2038 and 68 tons for the 2545, these trucks are fully capable of operating with heavy-duty four-axle semi-trailers, making them versatile for numerous freight configurations — from agricultural goods to industrial commodities.

Comfort, Ergonomics, and Driver Experience

Mercedes-Benz has taken significant strides to elevate the driver experience in the new Axor range. Both models are available with two cab configurations: a low-roof sleeper cab and a high-roof sleeper cab, catering to different operational needs and offering enhanced space and comfort for longer journeys.

Inside, drivers benefit from an ergonomic pneumatic seat with up to 11 adjustment settings, ensuring optimal posture and reducing fatigue over extended hours behind the wheel. Other comfort-focused features include a multifunction steering wheel, engine brake, and gear lever integrated into the steering column — all designed to improve convenience, safety, and control.

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has been a pivotal part of Daimler Truck’s global operations since its establishment. The company’s São Bernardo do Campo facility, inaugurated in 1956, is not only the largest Mercedes-Benz Trucks assembly plant outside Germany but also a central hub for innovation and development in Latin America.

This facility produces the full lineup of Brazilian Mercedes-Benz trucks — including the Accelo, Atego, Axor, and Actros — along with a comprehensive range of powertrains such as engines, axles, and transmissions. It also serves as the site of the company’s Technology Development Center, the largest of its kind in South America, where engineers tailor vehicle solutions specifically for local and regional requirements.

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil also operates a cabin welding and painting plant in Juiz de Fora, and a dedicated vehicle testing center in Iracemápolis, further reinforcing its vertical integration and commitment to local production.
