Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin: Redefining Aerodynamics, Efficiency, Comfort, and Safety in Heavy-Duty Trucks
Since its launch in June 2021, the Mercedes-Benz Actros L has stood as the premium representative of heavy-duty diesel-powered trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks. With the introduction of the latest generation, beginning production in December 2024, the company has once again underscored its ambition to remain at the forefront of conventional truck innovation.
At first glance, the redesigned exterior of the Actros L ProCabin captures attention. The ProCabin is a completely reimagined cab, engineered for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. The front end has been extended by 80 millimeters, guiding airflow more effectively around the vehicle. Gaps and joints have been minimized to ensure smoother air movement, resulting in up to three percent fuel savings. This achievement demonstrates how thoughtful design directly translates into operational efficiency for fleet operators.
Comfort and Driver-Focused Design
Mercedes-Benz Trucks understands that modern trucking is not only about cost savings and performance, but also about the comfort and well-being of drivers. The new Actros L combines futuristic design with a premium driving and resting experience.
Visually, the ProCabin impresses with a fully painted cab, dark chrome detailing of the Mercedes-Benz star and lettering, and robust aluminum step plates. Lighting has also been enhanced across the board: all lights—including headlights, turn signals, and rear lamps—feature LED technology. For those seeking top-tier illumination, optional matrix LED headlights provide maximum performance and safety during night driving.
Inside, drivers can select from the Stream, Big, or Giga Cab versions, each offering upgraded features. Comfort highlights include heated seats, premium flat-woven covers, and beds with slatted frames paired with thicker mattresses. Expanded bedside control panels, ambient lighting, and flexible gooseneck LED lamps enhance usability and rest conditions. Additional upgrades, such as extra USB-C sockets, dual refrigerators, a 230-volt socket, and even the SoloStar Concept with new seat cover options, reinforce the commitment to driver comfort during long hauls.
Smart Cockpit and Connectivity
The Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2 defines the ProCabin’s digital capabilities. Its 12-inch instrument display and enhanced touchscreen allow for intuitive, user-friendly operation. Many functions can now be accessed by voice control, enabling drivers to remain focused on the road. A new favorites menu also ensures quick access to frequently used features, such as power take-offs.
This integration of smart technology highlights Mercedes-Benz’s aim of making trucks not just vehicles, but connected workplaces on wheels.
Fuel-Efficient Powertrain with Next-Generation Diesel Engine
Efficiency gains extend beyond aerodynamics. The new Actros L is powered by the third-generation 12.8-liter OM 471 diesel engine, introduced in 2022. Alongside the proven OM 470 and OM 473, this engine is tailored for fuel economy and can achieve up to four percent fuel savings, reducing CO₂ emissions while cutting operating costs.
The expanded Top Torque program adds performance when needed, such as during overtaking or highway entry, without compromising fuel efficiency. Complementing the engine is the optimized powertrain featuring the G291-12 transmission and RAR 2.278d rear axle, which provide smoother acceleration on inclines, quieter cruising at 80 km/h, and further reductions in fuel consumption.
Safety Systems Setting New Benchmarks
Mercedes-Benz Trucks places safety at the heart of its innovations. The new Actros L comes equipped with an advanced suite of driver-assistance systems designed to prevent accidents and protect all road users.
Key features include Active Brake Assist 6, Active Sideguard Assist 2, Front Guard Assist, and Attention Assist. These technologies not only meet but often exceed the EU’s General Safety Regulation (GSR) standards in effect since 2022 and 2024. The integration of Active Drive Assist 3 for partially automated driving (SAE Level 2) and Predictive Powertrain Control further reinforces safe and efficient driving.
Looking ahead, from February 2026, Mercedes-Benz Trucks will expand its portfolio with systems aligned with new GSR regulations. For instance, the next-generation Attention Assist 2 will use infrared cameras to monitor driver eye movement and warn if attention strays from the road. Meanwhile, the enhanced Active Brake Assist 6 Plus will employ 270-degree fusion technology to detect hazards more quickly, including pedestrians, cyclists, and moving objects in curves, particularly at speeds up to 90 km/h.
Digital Services for Smarter Fleet Operations
Efficiency is no longer limited to engines and aerodynamics. Mercedes-Benz Trucks is investing heavily in digital solutions to support fleet operators. Through TruckLive, operators gain free access to digital service tools such as Maintenance Management and Live Traffic updates. New connected services—like over-the-air updates, Service24h Connected, and Connected Traffic Warnings—are rolling out this year, further streamlining fleet operations.
Additionally, the Fleetboard telematics system and Mercedes-Benz Trucks Uptime enable real-time vehicle diagnostics, predictive maintenance, and proactive service recommendations. To ensure cost predictability, the company offers flexible service contracts, with the Mercedes-Benz Trucks Complete package covering all workshop tasks, including wear parts, for a fixed monthly cost.
