Lidl Italia Launches a New Era in Sustainable Logistics with Italy’s First eActros 600 Electric Truck
Lidl Italia has taken a major step forward in its journey toward decarbonized logistics by becoming the first company in Italy to deploy the new eActros 600, Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ fully electric semitrailer tractor engineered specifically for long-distance, zero-emission freight transport. The milestone is the result of a strategic partnership with Daimler Truck Italia and LC3 Trasporti, and represents a significant leap toward more sustainable road freight operations in the country.
The all-electric eActros 600, delivered to Lidl Italia as part of a broader rollout plan, is now actively operating on delivery routes serving Lidl’s stores in the Trentino-South Tyrol and Lake Garda regions. Designed with high environmental performance in mind, the vehicle is coupled with a nitrogen-cooled semitrailer, enabling the temperature-controlled transportation of perishable goods while minimizing the carbon footprint. This setup not only addresses operational needs for grocery logistics but also embodies a modern solution for climate-responsible freight movement.
The collaboration between Lidl Italia, Daimler Truck Italia, and LC3 Trasporti marks a pioneering step on the Italian logistics landscape. The eActros 600 features distinctive visual branding to showcase the shared vision of the three companies and to symbolize their collective commitment to green transportation. LC3 Trasporti—well-regarded for its leadership in eco-conscious freight—has placed an order for a total of 30 eActros 600 trucks, positioning itself among the first European operators to adopt a fully electric long-haul fleet. The acquisition was facilitated through the official Mercedes-Benz Trucks dealer, Rossi Veicoli.
Luca Ros, Logistics Director at Lidl Italia, emphasized the company’s long-term focus on sustainable logistics:
“Logistics is a crucial part of our business and making it more sustainable is a must. For this reason, we have been embarking on a journey of gradual decarbonization of transport for years, which is also achieved through the choice of more sustainable means of transport. It is therefore an honor to be the first to use the new all-electric tractor unit in long-haul transport. A big thanks to our partners Daimler Truck Italia and LC3, both driven by our same sustainability values.”

Lidl Italia’s logistics network plays a key role in supporting over 730 stores across the country. The decision to integrate electric trucks into its fleet aligns with its broader environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals, as the company seeks to further reduce emissions, conserve energy, and enhance the sustainability of its operations. By being the first Italian retailer to deploy the eActros 600, Lidl Italia sets a precedent for others in the sector to follow.
From LC3 Trasporti’s perspective, the eActros 600 is another important chapter in its longstanding pursuit of innovation in eco-transport. Over the past 15 years, the company has championed a range of green logistics solutions—from LNG (liquefied natural gas) powered trucks to the use of nitrogen-based refrigeration systems. The introduction of fully electric, zero-emission long-haul trucks is the latest evolution of its sustainability strategy.
Michele Ambrogi, Operations Director of LC3 Trasporti, reflected on the significance of this development:
“We are very proud to have achieved this new milestone once again with two great partners, such as Lidl and Daimler Truck Italia. Building on these synergies, for over 15 years we have been tracing a new path for sustainable transport, opening innovations aimed at reducing our environmental impact and harmful emissions, while increasingly meeting the needs of the environment and the most virtuous customers.
A challenge we have been facing for a long time, from the introduction of the first LNG-powered tractors, moving from zero-impact refrigeration to nitrogen, to today’s launch of the full-electric, zero-impact long-haul solution, again the first on the Italian market. We are once again proud to pioneer a new solution that accelerates our journey towards a full green transition and greater well-being for the communities in which we operate.”
Daimler Truck Italia, which has been instrumental in developing and delivering the eActros 600 to the Italian market, views the collaboration as a key example of industry-wide momentum toward clean energy transportation. The eActros 600 was unveiled as a next-generation solution to meet the rising demand for decarbonized logistics without compromising performance or reliability.
Maurizio Pompei, CEO of Daimler Truck Italia, underscored the broader impact of this initiative:
“Sustainable mobility is the key of our strategy and this collaboration with LC3 Trasporti and Lidl Italia is a concrete example of how we can make a difference. Our eActros 600 is a revolutionary vehicle that marks an important step in the future of logistics, and we are excited to see it in action at Lidl Italia.”
The eActros 600 is a flagship model in Daimler Truck’s expanding electric portfolio. With an expected range of around 500 kilometers on a single charge and the capacity for megawatt charging in the future, the truck is engineered to meet the operational demands of long-distance logistics. In addition to offering zero tailpipe emissions, the truck features an efficient drive system, regenerative braking capabilities, and enhanced digital connectivity for route optimization.
This deployment in Italy comes at a critical time, as the European Union and national governments continue to push for faster decarbonization across the transportation sector. The partnership between Lidl Italia, LC3 Trasporti, and Daimler Truck Italia not only advances those goals but also helps build public awareness and confidence in the readiness of electric heavy-duty vehicles.
As the first Italian retail supply chain to adopt the eActros 600, Lidl Italia is helping define what the future of sustainable logistics will look like—and proving that zero-emission long-haul transport is not only possible, but already happening.
About the eActros 600
Mercedes-Benz Trucks celebrated the series launch of the eActros 600 at the end of November last year at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth. Deliveries to customers began in December 2024. The electric flagship among Mercedes-Benz Trucks has already proven its capabilities several times under real-life conditions: In customer use and as part of the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024”, a 15,000-kilometer all-electric development trip through a total of 22 countries and the “European Testing Tour Winter 2025” on around 6,500 kilometers through Northern Europe, each with a gross combination mass of 40 tons. In addition, the e-truck was voted “International Truck of the Year 2025”.
The award is the most important prize in the industry and is presented annually by the International Truck of the Year (IToY) organization, consisting of 24 commercial vehicle journalists from Europe. The overall technological concept consisting of an electric drive axle and LFP cell technology was decisive for the award.
The high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours – hence the model designation 600 – and a new, particularly efficient electric drive axle developed in-house enable the electric truck to achieve a range of 500 kilometers[1] without intermediate charging. This range is accomplished under very realistic and practical conditions with a gross combination mass of 40 tons, which can also be significantly exceeded depending on the driving style and the route. The eActros 600 will even be able to cover well over 1,000 kilometers per day. Intermediate charging during statutory driver breaks makes this possible, provided that charging options are available.
The eActros 600 has three battery packs, each with 207 kWh[2]. These offer an installed total capacity of 621 kWh. The batteries are based on lithium iron phosphate cell technology (LFP) and are characterized by a long service life. In contrast to other battery cell technologies, more than 95 percent of the installed capacity can also be used with LFP technology.
This enables a higher range with the same amount of installed battery capacity. The Lidl vehicle is technically designed for a gross combination mass of up to 44 tons. With a standard semitrailer, the eActros 600 has a payload of around 22 tons in the EU. In some cases, national law may allow a higher payload.
