Kioxia Introduces BG7 Series Next-Generation SSDs for PC Manufacturers

Kioxia Launches BG7 Series Consumer SSDs Featuring 8th Generation BiCS FLASH™

Kioxia Corporation has announced the launch of its KIOXIA BG7 series solid-state drives (SSDs), marking the industry’s first consumer-grade SSD lineup to integrate the company’s latest BiCS FLASH™ 8th generation 3D flash memory. The new series utilizes advanced CMOS Direct-on-Array (CBA) technology and is designed to deliver enhanced performance, functionality, and energy efficiency for PC applications.Targeted at commercial and consumer notebooks and desktops, the BG7 series offers a balanced combination of high-speed performance and power efficiency. Leveraging the optimized architecture of BiCS FLASH™ Generation 8, the drives achieve random read and write performance of up to 1 million IOPS and sequential read speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s. Compared with the previous KIOXIA BG6 series, this represents approximately a 10% improvement in random performance and a 16% increase in sequential read speeds.

Energy efficiency has also been significantly enhanced. Through improvements in storage unit performance enabled by CBA technology, optimized control circuit design, and refined SSD controller tuning, the BG7 series delivers up to 67% better energy efficiency in sequential write scenarios.

The BG7 series expands Kioxia’s product lineup with added flexibility and functionality. Support for the NVMe™ 2.0d protocol enables OEMs to implement more precise control features. In addition to the existing M.2 Type 2230 and 2280 form factors, the series now includes a new Type 2242 option, allowing broader compatibility across diverse system designs.

As a high-performance consumer SSD lineup, the BG7 series features a DRAM-free architecture supported by mature Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, which uses a portion of host system memory to reduce overall costs while maintaining stable performance. Additional features include compatibility with PCIe® 4.0 and NVMe™ 2.0d specifications, support for Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) functionality based on TCG Opal version 2.01, and availability in capacities of 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB. Notably, the 256 GB model uses BiCS FLASH™ sixth-generation memory.

Kioxia will showcase the BG7 series at CES® 2026, taking place January 6–8 at the Venetian Convention Centre in Las Vegas, booth Zeno 4710 on Level 4. Sample testing has already begun with select PC OEM customers. More information is available at the company’s official website.
