Israeli Heron TP RPAS Takes Maiden Flight in Germany

The German Heron TP (GHTP), developed by UAV PEO at the Directorate of Defense Research and Development at the IMoD and Israel Aerospace Industries, completed its inaugural flight in German airspace today (15.5.2024). This Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) was tailored to meet the specific needs of the German Ministry of Defence through a collaboration involving IAI, DDR&D, and Airbus.

The joint effort between Airbus, IAI, DDR&D, and the German Armed Forces ensured the creation of an RPAS boasting advanced performance and operational readiness, enhancing Germany’s military capabilities. The flight was attended by senior representatives from the German Air Force, DDR&D, Airbus, and IAI, marking a significant milestone toward achieving full operational capability.

Boaz Levy, President and CEO of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), hailed the deployment of Heron TP (GHTP) RPAS in Germany as a landmark achievement, underlining IAI’s leadership in aerospace and defense solutions globally.

Dr. Daniel Gold, Head of DDR&D, IMOD, expressed immense pride in the milestone, emphasizing the strong partnership between Israel and Germany and the strategic advantage the German Heron TP RPAS brings in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

Moshe Levy, IAI VP and General Manager of the Military Aircraft Group, thanked partners at Airbus and the Ministry of Defense for their collaboration, highlighting IAI’s commitment to providing exceptional service to the German Ministry of Defence.

The Head of UAV PEO, DDR&D, IMOD, celebrated the historic achievement, highlighting the advanced capabilities and collaborative efforts behind the Heron-TP RPAS.

Jean-Brice Dumont, Head of Air Power at Airbus Defence and Space, emphasized the continuity of successful cooperation and the Heron TP’s potential to offer additional capabilities to the German Armed Forces in the future.
