
Intel Names Lip-Bu Tan as Chief Executive Officer
Intel Corporation has officially announced the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective March 18. Tan, a highly regarded leader in the technology and semiconductor industry, will replace Interim Co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus. Additionally, Tan will rejoin Intel’s board of directors after stepping down in August 2024.

Following the leadership transition, David Zinsner will continue serving as Intel’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, while Michelle Johnston Holthaus will retain her position as CEO of Intel Products. Frank D. Yeary, who served as interim executive chair of the board during the CEO search process, will return to his role as independent chair of the board upon Tan’s appointment.

Lip-Bu Tan’s Background and Expertise
Lip-Bu Tan is widely recognized as a seasoned technology investor and executive with over two decades of experience in the semiconductor and software industries. He has developed strong relationships across Intel’s ecosystem, making him a strategic choice for leading the company into its next phase of growth.
Before joining Intel, Tan served as CEO of Cadence Design Systems from 2009 to 2021. During his tenure, he led a major transformation of the company, focusing on customer-centric innovation and driving significant growth. Under his leadership, Cadence more than doubled its revenue, expanded its operating margins, and achieved a remarkable 3,200% increase in stock price appreciation.
Tan was a member of Cadence’s board of directors for 19 years, from 2004 to 2023, and also served as the company’s executive chairman from 2021 to 2023 after stepping down as CEO. His extensive board experience extends beyond Cadence, as he currently serves on the boards of Credo Technology Group and Schneider Electric.
In addition to his corporate leadership roles, Tan is the founding managing partner of Walden Catalyst Ventures and chairman of Walden International. His expertise in venture capital and investment strategies has contributed to his reputation as a forward-thinking industry leader.
