The Indonesian Air Force has ordered four Airbus H145 helicopters as part of its initiative to modernize its training program. This order was revealed at the Bali International Airshow this week.
Under the agreement with PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), Airbus will supply five-bladed H145 helicopters to PTDI, which will handle the reassembly, installation of mission equipment, and other customizations at its facility in Bandung. The helicopters will then be delivered to the Indonesian Air Force, where they will be used for military training and light search-and-rescue missions.
“We are honored by Indonesia’s choice of the Airbus H145 for its training fleet. We are confident that this versatile helicopter will enhance military pilot training and play a critical role in search-and-rescue operations. With PTDI as a trusted partner, we look forward to supporting Indonesia’s fleet,” said Vincent Dubrule, Head of Asia-Pacific, Airbus Helicopters.
Gita Amperiawan, President Director of PT Dirgantara Indonesia, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the deepening collaboration between PTDI and Airbus. “This partnership not only strengthens our long-standing relationship but also boosts the national aerospace industry. By assembling the H145 helicopters locally, PTDI will expand its integration and assembly capabilities, paving the way for further development in the future.”
Airbus Helicopters and Indonesia share a relationship that dates back nearly 50 years, beginning in 1976 when PTDI acquired the license to produce the NBO-105 helicopter. PTDI later became a key supplier for Airbus, producing components like the rear fuselage and main airframe for the H225 model. Over the years, the partnership has expanded to include support for the Indonesian military fleet and the potential development of local aerostructure production, as well as enhancing maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities.
The latest version of the Airbus H145 features an innovative five-bladed rotor that increases its useful load by 150 kg. The rotor’s bearingless design simplifies maintenance and improves reliability while enhancing comfort for both passengers and crew. Globally, more than 1,700 H145 helicopters are in service, accumulating over 7.9 million flight hours. The H145 is equipped with the Helionix digital avionics suite, which includes a four-axis autopilot, increasing safety and reducing pilot workload. Additionally, its low acoustic footprint and low CO2 emissions make it a standout in its class. Armed forces worldwide, including those of the US, UK, and soon Germany, use the H145 for military training.
