IFF, a global leader in food and beverage, home and personal care, scent, and health, has revealed plans to complete the renovation and expansion of its facilities at the Shanghai Hongqiao Airport Business Park by the end of August 2024. This new 16,000 square-meter facility, named the “Shanghai Creative Center,” will be IFF’s largest in Asia and is designed to drive the development of innovative solutions across its portfolio in China and the Greater Asia region. The expansion aims to bolster IFF’s global leadership in fragrances, flavors, functional ingredients, and bioscience-based products.
“The Shanghai Creative Center will consolidate our capabilities into a single location, enhancing our ability to deliver comprehensive solutions to customers across Asia and beyond,” said Erik Fyrwald, IFF’s CEO. “This development follows the opening of our Singapore Innovation Center in 2022 and underscores our commitment to advancing innovation in Asia.”
Since entering the Chinese market in 1981, IFF has been a pioneer, becoming the first multinational in the fragrance and flavor industry to establish a presence and factory in China. The new site highlights the strategic importance of Asia to IFF and reflects the region’s significant growth potential in flavors and fragrances. Additionally, as consumer demand for bioscience-based products grows, driven by a desire for longevity and healthy living, IFF’s expertise and investment in this new center will enable the company to rapidly deliver differentiated products that support its customers’ brand growth in China.
“IFF has a proven track record of creating successful solutions in partnership with our customers,” said Ana Paula Mendonça, President of IFF Scent. “The Shanghai Creative Center will foster exceptional ideation and innovation in taste, biotech, and perfumery.”
Designed for collaboration and co-creation, the Shanghai Creative Center will feature an open-office layout, a sensory science center, a Scent creative center, and cutting-edge labs for creation, design, and analysis. The facility will also include a culinary demo kitchen, a pioneering instant noodle pilot line, and an exclusive fine fragrance area dedicated to perfumery. A 360° digital space will offer an immersive olfactory experience, bridging physical and digital realms and supporting live-streamed educational workshops.
This multifaceted approach will empower perfumers and flavorists to create new sensory experiences and cater to the diverse tastes of Chinese consumers, serving local, regional, and international markets.
