Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics LAB has achieved remarkable success at the 2024 Red Dot Design Awards, winning three prestigious honors, including two Best of Best titles. These awards are among the most esteemed in the design industry, with Hyundai’s accolades coming in the Robotics category.
The standout winner, the Safety Inspection Robot, is currently deployed at the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS). This advanced robot uses artificial intelligence to inspect machinery and detect abnormalities within the smart urban mobility hub. Its design features a sculpted cover that eliminates sensor blind spots, ensuring precise detection and boosting productivity. The robot’s sleek exterior complements its high-tech functionality, seamlessly blending into the HMGICS environment.
To enhance its field of view and detection capabilities, the robot’s camera can be elevated via a telescopic extension. It navigates around obstacles on the production floor with its four Plug and Drive (PnD) modules. Its unique design allows it to inspect components in difficult-to-reach areas, correct human errors, and detect missed contaminants or spills.
The MobED Delivery robot, another Best of Best winner, stands out for its compact and minimalistic design. Its DnL (Drive and Lift) module integrates driving, steering, and braking into a single eccentric wheel mechanism. This design allows MobED Delivery to adjust its body inclination and height dynamically, ensuring smooth and secure delivery of goods. The robot’s wheelbase is adjustable to minimize pedestrian inconvenience while ensuring safe transport.
MobED Delivery’s adaptability allows it to navigate various terrains with ease. Its load tray extends towards the ground when the robot’s body inclines, with a conveyor belt guiding items towards the rear. This ensures secure item delivery and integration into diverse environments, such as offices and apartments, enhancing convenience by eliminating the need for personal item receipt.
Additionally, the DAL-e Delivery robot was recognized as a Red Dot Winner. This robot delivers food, beverages, and parcels in complex spaces like offices and shopping malls. Its design includes a top display and LED lighting for status indication, a secure load cabin with automatic double doors, and a powered tray for deliveries. The robot’s power module supports autonomous navigation with a suite of cameras and sensors.
