Hyundai Motor Group Chair Euisun Chung Meets Indian PM Modi to Discuss EV Ecosystem, Innovation, and Investment Plans

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung recently met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the future of mobility, emphasizing Hyundai’s commitment to collaborating with India due to its diverse market and reform-driven approach.

Chung was in India to review Hyundai’s mid- to long-term strategy and attended the Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) Stock Exchange Listing Ceremony on October 22, 2024.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s office in Delhi, also included HMIL COO Tarun Garg. The discussions focused on the development of India’s mobility industry and potential areas of cooperation between India and Hyundai Motor Group.

Chung extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to attend the opening of HMIL’s new plant in Pune, Maharashtra, which is poised to be a transformative investment for Hyundai, with support from both the Indian and Maharashtra governments.

As a key player in the “Make in India” initiative, HMIL will continue to contribute to India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision, aligning with the country’s development goals by 2047, marking 100 years of independence. Hyundai will remain a trusted partner in this endeavor.

Since its entry into the Indian market in 1996, Hyundai Motor Group has become a leading mobility company in the country, known for innovative products and social contributions.

During the meeting, Chung expressed admiration for India’s rich cultural heritage, saying, “India’s history and culture inspire the world. As economic collaboration between India and Korea deepens, we can learn from each other and strengthen our partnership.”

Chung also expressed gratitude to the Indian government for its continued support, highlighting the importance of Hyundai Motor India’s IPO and outlining plans to further solidify Hyundai’s status as India’s most trusted mobility company.

“Hyundai has thrived in India for over 26 years, becoming the second-largest automaker, thanks to the government’s support and the people’s trust,” Chung stated. “Now is the time to strengthen Hyundai’s position as a ‘Home Brand’ and the ‘Most Trusted Brand’ in India.”

Chung reaffirmed Hyundai’s commitment to driving the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in India. “We will continue working with the Indian government to build an EV ecosystem, through new EV models, expanding EV-charging networks, and localizing parts production,” he added.
