Hyundai Motor Company achieved significant success at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2024, securing multiple prestigious honors. The company took home a ‘Gold’ for the IONIQ 5 N, a ‘Bronze’ for the SANTA FE, and both the ‘Curator’s Choice Award’ and another ‘Gold’ for the Hyundai Heritage: Retrace Collection Book ‘PONY’.
The Hyundai Heritage: Retrace Collection Book ‘PONY’ earned the exclusive Curator’s Choice Award, given to only one project annually, regardless of its category. This book is part of Hyundai’s Heritage Project, highlighting the company’s legacy and its human-centered approach, which has driven its success. The PONY Collection preserves historical records of Hyundai’s first mass-produced car, including design sketches, development documents, and interviews.
The IONIQ 5 N, which won the Gold Award at IDEA 2024, is a groundbreaking high-performance electric vehicle (EV) that leads Hyundai N’s electrification strategy. This innovative vehicle, crowned the 2024 World Performance Car of the Year, delivers enhanced racetrack capabilities and performance innovations. Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s award-winning Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 5 N incorporates advanced motorsport technologies, pushing the limits of EV performance.
Hyundai’s all-new SANTA FE, which earned the Bronze Award, exemplifies the company’s ‘Open for More’ design concept. The fifth-generation SUV boasts a spacious, terrace-like interior with an extended wheelbase and wide tailgate opening, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Its bold exterior design, featuring a distinctive silhouette and H-motif elements, combines with a modern, flexible interior made from sustainable materials. Colors inspired by natural light enhance the vehicle’s vibrant atmosphere.
IDEA 2024 also recognized several other Hyundai designs in the Automotive & Transportation category, including the SANTA FE XRT Concept, SPACE (Spatial Curated Experience), and Hyundai Motor Group’s Global EV Home Charger.
The SANTA FE XRT Concept, revealed in 2023 alongside the new SANTA FE, is designed for off-road adventures with rugged features like substantial off-road wheels, a roof-mounted luggage rack, and additional external storage. It embodies versatility for outdoor exploration.
The SPACE, introduced at CES 2024, is a public mobility solution that offers unrestricted access to travel for all, including individuals with mobility challenges. It features an Adaptive Seat and adjustable boarding height for easy wheelchair access. The SPACE Pavilion repurposes decommissioned modules for disadvantaged communities, powered by a hydrogen fuel cell energy system that supports battery charging, air purification, and crop cultivation.
The Hyundai Motor Group Global EV Home Charger is a versatile charging solution designed for various installation environments, offering a charging output between 7 and 22 kW. Its slim, vertical design saves space and includes a cable holder for organization. The charger also connects to an app-based home energy management system for personalized services.
Additionally, Hyundai’s Heritage PONY Project won Gold in the Branding category, and the Sustainable Paper Package Series earned Bronze in the Packing category. The Hyundai Multi Lantern was a finalist in the Outdoor & Garden category.
