Hyundai Motor has launched its original digital series, Cities in Motion, which explores innovative solutions cities are adopting to tackle urban environmental challenges and promote sustainability. The series, available on Hyundai Worldwide’s YouTube channel, features episodes on London, Frankfurt, Jakarta, and Los Angeles.
The series highlights the critical role cities play in environmental impact, responsible for 70% of greenhouse gas emissions, 80% of energy consumption, and more than half of the world’s waste. In response, Hyundai Motor asks, “How can cities become more sustainable?”
In partnership with sustainability broadcaster James Stewart and Voice for Nature, founded by David de Rothschild, Hyundai set out to explore this question, traveling to the four featured cities using IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 electric vehicles (EVs). Each episode dives into the unique sustainability initiatives of these cities:
- London emphasizes the importance of urban green spaces, featuring SUGi, a non-profit that creates “pocket forests” to enhance air and water quality and engage future generations.
- Frankfurt focuses on the city’s sustainable urban planning, aiming to become climate-neutral by 2035. The episode showcases renewable energy-powered homes and the city’s diverse mobility options, including EVs, cycling routes, hydrogen trains, and electric buses.
- Jakarta addresses Indonesia’s plastic waste crisis and features local efforts in waste management. Hyundai, through its ‘Hyundai Continue’ initiative, partners with Save the Children to educate youth on the circular economy.
- Los Angeles explores the city’s goals for zero-emission vehicles by 2050 and a fully renewable power grid by 2045, highlighting non-profit GRID Alternatives, which provides solar energy solutions for communities.
Cities in Motion presents an inspiring look into urban sustainability efforts worldwide and Hyundai Motor’s dedication to promoting sustainability in line with its vision of Progress for Humanity.
