Hyundai Motor Group and the University of Oxford inaugurated the Oxford-Hyundai Motor Group Foresight Centre on July 8 at Oxford’s historic Convocation House. Located at Saïd Business School, the Centre aims to support Hyundai’s long-term vision and strategic planning by proactively addressing future geopolitical shifts and risks. It will conduct innovative research and facilitate interdisciplinary discussions among government agencies, academia, and industry experts.
The University of Oxford is renowned for its Oxford Scenario Planning Approach (OSPA), which reshapes industry perspectives and long-term corporate directions. Attendees from Hyundai included Gyun Kim and Heung-Soo Kim, while Oxford representatives included Professor Soumitra Dutta, Professor Jonathan Reynolds, Professor Rafael Ramirez, and Professor Trudi Lang. Programs such as the Oxford Scenarios Programme and Oxford Futures Forum will help Hyundai align its strategic initiatives.
The Centre will also engage with Hyundai’s open innovation network in the U.S., China, India, Germany, and Singapore, expanding the Group’s ecosystems. Professor Rafael Ramirez, an expert in future scenario planning, will direct the Centre, co-directed by Professor Trudi Lang, who brings extensive strategic foresight experience.
Ramirez has chaired the Global Agenda Council at the World Economic Forum and advised industry leaders like Royal Dutch Shell. Lang has held positions at the World Economic Forum and OECD Secretariat.
This collaboration will help Hyundai design and realize its future goals, solidifying its leadership in the future mobility industry by moving beyond short-term predictions to shape the future proactively.
