General Motors (GM) continues to solidify its commitment to making electric vehicles (EVs) practical and accessible for drivers across the United States. A critical component of this mission is the development of a robust network of public fast chargers. In collaboration with industry leader EVgo, GM has reached a major milestone: the installation of over 2,000 co-branded public fast charging stalls. This achievement places the partnership among the largest providers of public fast charging infrastructure in the country.
The 2,000th stall, a notable milestone in the GM and EVgo partnership, is part of a newly inaugurated charging station located in Murrieta, California. Strategically positioned off Interstate 215 in Riverside County, the station features five 350kW fast chargers capable of simultaneously serving up to 10 EVs. This prime location allows drivers to charge their vehicles while enjoying nearby retail shopping, coffee shops, and dining options, enhancing the overall EV charging experience.
Since the inception of their collaboration, GM and EVgo have established fast charging stalls at more than 390 locations across 45 metropolitan markets in 32 states. This initiative prioritizes accessibility by focusing on high-traffic areas such as grocery stores, retail complexes, and city centers. It also aims to serve customers who lack access to home charging facilities, including renters and residents of multifamily dwellings.
The collaboration is far from over. GM and EVgo are working toward an ambitious goal of completing 2,850 DC fast charging stalls nationwide. As part of this plan, 400 public fast charging stalls will be installed at flagship destinations in key metropolitan markets across the country, including Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New York, and Texas. These flagship locations will enhance charging accessibility and convenience for EV drivers in these densely populated areas.
Progress has been rapid. In August 2023, the companies celebrated the opening of their 1,000th public fast charging stall in Woodbridge, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Since then, the partnership has doubled its EV charging footprint. The expansion includes charging infrastructure along major interstate routes and highway rest stops, ensuring that GM EV drivers can confidently embark on long-distance travel. When combined with GM’s comprehensive suite of home charging products, this extensive public charging network makes it easier than ever for drivers to own and operate electric vehicles.
Our collaboration with EVgo underscores our dedication to providing EV drivers with the best possible experience by expanding reliable fast charging infrastructure across the country, said Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy. We look forward to continuing to offer premium charging experiences for years to come.
EVgo also expressed its enthusiasm for the partnership and the milestone achievement. “EVgo’s longstanding collaboration with GM has helped us bring public charging to communities in more than 30 states across the U.S.,” said Dennis Kish, President of EVgo. “As we work to deploy our first flagship destinations next year, we are thrilled to celebrate today’s milestone of reaching 2,000 fast charging stalls built through this program.”
The GM-EVgo partnership demonstrates a shared vision of advancing EV adoption by addressing one of the most significant barriers to entry: charging infrastructure. With plans to continue expanding their network, the companies are paving the way for a more sustainable and accessible future for electric mobility.
