Geely Launches 11 Satellites to Boost Space-Earth Mobility

Geely Successfully Deploys 11 Satellites in Fourth Orbital Plane, Strengthening Integrated Space-Earth Mobility Vision

At exactly 12:31 AM Beijing time on August 9, 2025, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group reached another landmark in its ambitious space technology journey. The company successfully launched the fourth orbital plane satellites of its “Geely Future Mobility Constellation,” officially known as GEESATCOM. This latest launch involved a single rocket carrying 11 satellites, departing from waters near Rizhao in Shandong Province, China.

According to the company, all 11 satellites smoothly entered their planned low Earth orbits and are functioning normally. The achievement represents a significant milestone for GEESATCOM, marking major progress in low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite Internet of Things (IoT) communications and taking Geely a step closer to its long-term vision—an integrated space and Earth mobility ecosystem that could redefine the global transportation experience.

A Growing Satellite Network

GEESATCOM is the brainchild of Geespace, Geely Holding Group’s commercial aerospace subsidiary. Geespace is responsible for both the independent development and operation of the constellation. Before this launch, the company had already carried out three successful orbital deployments in 2022 and 2024.

With the addition of these 11 new satellites, Geespace now has a total of 41 satellites in active orbit. The first phase of the project aims for a total of 72 satellites, with the company targeting completion by the end of 2025. The next two months are expected to see rapid progress—Geespace plans to boost the number of operational satellites to 64, delivering comprehensive global satellite IoT coverage that excludes only the polar regions.

Strategic Importance of LEO Communications

LEO satellite communications have emerged as a transformative technology for a range of industries, including connected vehicles, urban air mobility, emergency disaster response, maritime operations, and large-scale energy infrastructure. The GEESATCOM constellation is designed to integrate seamlessly into these sectors, enabling connections not only for passenger vehicles but also for low-altitude aircraft, maritime vessels, and even heavy construction equipment.

By providing “always-on” global IoT connectivity, the network ensures highly reliable and wide-reaching communication capabilities. This has the potential to dramatically improve operational safety, logistical efficiency, and real-time decision-making across industries worldwide.

Global Partnerships and Market Expansion

In building GEESATCOM, Geespace has already established partnerships with telecommunications operators in more than 20 countries, spanning the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Commercial testing of the network has yielded impressive results, with a 99.15% success rate in service delivery and network uptime exceeding 99.97%. These metrics are helping Geespace build strong credibility and trust in the global satellite IoT market.

Integration with Intelligent Mobility

As a key pillar in Geely Holding’s integrated space-earth mobility strategy, GEESATCOM’s IoT communications are combined with high-precision satellite positioning to enhance automated driving and connected mobility services. The infrastructure supports advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and connected vehicle platforms, which in turn improve safety, navigation accuracy, and user convenience.

Geespace has also achieved mass production of proprietary satellite communication chips and high-precision positioning modules. These technologies are already being integrated into Geely’s wide range of vehicles, with vehicle-mounted satellite terminals and combined positioning systems now rolling out at scale.

Real-World Applications at the World Games 2025

The global stage for GEESATCOM’s capabilities will be the World Games 2025 in Chengdu, where Geely Holding is serving as an official partner. During the event, the company will showcase how its satellite technologies can be applied in large-scale operations. Official event vehicles will be equipped with high-precision positioning and emergency satellite communication systems, enabling real-time fleet management and improving the standard of transportation for international athletes, officials, and visitors.

Building the Earth-Space Mobility Ecosystem

With global transportation industries rapidly shifting toward intelligent electrification, Geely Holding sees the GEESATCOM project as a cornerstone of its future. The constellation is not just about satellites—it is part of a broader ecosystem integrating space-based communications with land-based mobility solutions.

By pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with IoT connectivity and positioning technologies, Geely aims to create a seamless travel experience that is safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. The company’s continued investment in innovative products, infrastructure, and services underlines its ambition to be at the forefront of the green intelligent mobility revolution.

As 2025 progresses, all eyes will be on Geespace’s accelerated deployment schedule. If the company achieves its planned 72-satellite first-phase network by year-end, GEESATCOM could stand as one of the most advanced and commercially viable LEO IoT constellations in the world—bringing Geely’s integrated space-earth mobility vision closer to reality.
