Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Schlieren – Under the fitting motto “Electrifying Moment,” Daimler Truck Switzerland has taken a significant step forward in the journey toward zero-emission heavy transport. In a symbolic ceremony held in Brunnen, Switzerland, the company, together with twenty transport operators, marked the official handover of the very first Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks to Swiss customers.

The vehicles are not just trial units or pilot projects—they are the result of firm purchase commitments made by customers last year. Deliveries of these first twenty e-trucks have already begun, underscoring both customer confidence and the company’s ability to bring its flagship electric truck into real-world long-haul operations.

Strong Signals for Swiss Long-Haul Transport

The ceremonial event was more than a delivery; it was a declaration of intent. Jürg Lüthi, CEO of Daimler Truck Switzerland AG, explained the importance of the eActros 600 for the Swiss market.

“It quickly became clear to us that this truck is also of great importance for Switzerland. It was important to us to convince our customers of this vehicle concept at an early stage,” Lüthi said. “We are convinced that the eActros 600 will be a great success in Switzerland and that it is a real game changer for the future of CO₂-neutral transport.”

His remarks reflect a wider shift within the industry. Switzerland, with its challenging geography and heavy reliance on cross-border freight, is seen as a litmus test for the viability of heavy-duty electric transport. That early adopters have committed to the eActros 600 demonstrates growing trust in battery-electric solutions for routes traditionally dominated by diesel.

Celebration with Industry Partners

Around 80 representatives from the Swiss transport sector gathered in Brunnen, against the stunning backdrop of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains, to witness the milestone. The event was equal parts celebration and acknowledgment of customer partnership.

By hosting the ceremony, Daimler Truck Switzerland AG and its dealer network emphasized their gratitude to the twenty pioneering transport companies. The event was also symbolic: in front of the alpine scenery, the future of transport was handed over in steel, rubber, and kilowatt-hours.

The eActros 600: Mercedes-Benz’s Flagship Electric Truck

The eActros 600 is no stranger to headlines. Mercedes-Benz Trucks officially launched the series version of the vehicle at its Wörth production plant in November 2024. Customer deliveries started shortly thereafter in December, marking the beginning of a new era for the brand’s long-haul truck lineup.

Already, the vehicle has proven itself in rigorous real-world testing. During the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024,” the truck completed a 15,000-kilometer all-electric journey across 22 countries while hauling up to 40 tons. It followed up with the “European Testing Tour Winter 2025,” where it covered 6,500 kilometers through harsh northern climates, once again under full load.

Such results have not gone unnoticed. In fact, the eActros 600 was crowned “International Truck of the Year 2025,” one of the industry’s most prestigious accolades, awarded by a jury of 24 leading commercial vehicle journalists across Europe.

Technical Highlights

What sets the eActros 600 apart is not just its branding but its engineering.

  • Battery System: The truck carries three battery packs, each offering 207 kWh, for a total installed capacity of 621 kWh. These use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology, chosen for its robustness and long service life. Importantly, LFP allows more than 95% of the installed capacity to be used, maximizing efficiency.
  • Range: Thanks to its high-capacity batteries and an efficient in-house developed electric drive axle, the eActros 600 can travel around 500 kilometers on a single charge under realistic 40-ton gross weight conditions. With strategic intermediate charging during mandatory driver breaks, daily ranges can exceed 1,000 kilometers.
  • Durability: Engineers designed the eActros 600 to match the durability standards of its diesel sibling, the Actros. That means up to 1.2 million kilometers of operation over ten years, with battery health still expected to remain above 80% afterward.
  • Payload: In EU configurations, the eActros 600 offers a payload of about 22 tons with a standard semitrailer. The truck is technically capable of operating with a gross combination mass of up to 44 tons, and in certain countries, national laws may permit even higher payloads.
A Game Changer for the Industry

The handover of these first 20 trucks represents more than a sales milestone. It is a signal that long-haul electric freight is moving from prototype to practice. For Daimler Truck Switzerland, the delivery event was an opportunity to show that industry trust has already been earned, and that infrastructure, regulation, and customer commitment are aligning to make zero-emission logistics feasible.

For the transport operators present in Brunnen, the trucks represent both opportunity and challenge: an investment in future competitiveness, and a step into a new operational paradigm.
