Ferrari Chasing Global Glory in Packed Weekend of Racing Across America, Europe, and Japan
The motorsport calendar is entering one of its most decisive stretches of the 2025 season, and Ferrari finds itself at the heart of the action. The Prancing Horse will be represented in a diverse array of championships across three continents, aiming for victories that could prove crucial in the championship battles. From America’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship to Europe’s ELMS and Le Mans Cup, alongside DTM in Germany and Super GT in Japan, Ferrari’s red machines are set for a busy and potentially historic weekend.
IMSA – Aiming for a Third Consecutive Win in the U.S.
The action begins in the United States at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR), where the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship continues. Ferrari will field four cars in the GT Challenge, carrying strong momentum after back-to-back wins.
Triarsi Competizione recently claimed victory in the GTD class at Road America, while DragonSpeed triumphed in the GTD Pro class at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in July. DragonSpeed, led by Giacomo Altoe and Albert Costa in the No. 81 Ferrari 296 GT3, comes to VIR with a three-race podium streak. Their consistency – including a win in Canada, plus podiums at Watkins Glen and Road America – has put them firmly in title contention. Costa emphasized the importance of staying focused: “Being in the championship fight is great, but I want to enjoy every weekend, race by race. Winning is always the goal.”
Triarsi Competizione also has high hopes. Team owner and driver Onofrio Triarsi, alongside Kenton Koch, guided the No. 021 Ferrari to its maiden victory at Road America with a thrilling late pass. Koch, notably, is also the defending GTD winner at VIR.
Conquest Racing, with Daniel Serra and Manny Franco, are targeting another podium after finishing third at Road America, while Inception Racing, represented by Brendan Iribe and Frederik Schandorff, will be pushing for a strong rebound after a tough outing in Wisconsin.
Ferrari’s last overall triumph at VIR dates back to 2014, when Risi Competizione’s 458 Italia GTLM secured the win. This weekend’s two-hour, 40-minute race begins Sunday afternoon, preceded by practice and qualifying sessions across Friday and Saturday.
ELMS – Title Battles at Spa-Francorchamps
In Europe, the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) resumes at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The 4 Hours of Spa is the fourth round of the season, featuring a 44-car entry list and seven Ferrari 296 LMGT3s.
The championship fight remains tight. Spirit of Race leads the GT3 standings with its No. 55 Ferrari driven by Matt Griffin, Duncan Cameron, and David Perel. Close behind is AF Corse’s No. 51 machine with Davide Rigon, Charles-Henri Samani, and Conrad Laursen, just seven points adrift. Richard Mille AF Corse, winners at Le Castellet with Lilou Wadoux, Riccardo Agostini, and Custodio Toledo, sit another point back.
Kessel Racing will continue with two strong line-ups, including Ferrari factory driver Miguel Molina. James Calado also joins the effort with Takeshi Kimura and Ben Tuck. With Gianmaria Bruni featuring for JMW Motorsport and Riccardo Pera lining up for GR Racing, Ferrari’s roster at Spa blends youth, experience, and proven champions.
Qualifying takes place Saturday, followed by Sunday’s main event at 1 p.m.
Le Mans Cup – Ferrari Strong After Break
The Le Mans Cup also returns at Spa after a two-month pause. Four Ferrari 296 GT3s are on the grid, led by AF Corse’s No. 51 entry, which currently tops the standings thanks to podium success at Le Mans. Kessel Racing brings two cars, while AF Corse and Velorex add further depth to Ferrari’s attack. Qualifying is scheduled for Saturday, followed by a 110-minute race later in the day.
DTM – A Crucial Round in Germany
Meanwhile in Germany, the DTM championship intensifies at Sachsenring, one of the series’ most demanding circuits. Emil Frey Racing’s trio of Ferrari 296 GT3s will be central to the action, particularly Jack Aitken, who sits second in the standings, just eight points off the lead. Aitken has fond memories of the venue, having won there in 2024. Teammates Ben Green and Thierry Vermeulen will also look to make their mark as the season edges closer to its climax.
Two one-hour races are scheduled for the weekend, with qualifying sessions on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Super GT – Suzuka Hosts Ferrari in Japan
Finally, in Asia, the Super GT championship returns to Suzuka for its fifth round. Unlike the sprint race at Fuji, Suzuka restores the traditional 300-kilometre format, offering more strategy and endurance elements. Two Ferrari 296 GT3s will compete: the No. 45 Ponos Racing entry with Kei Cozzolino and Takuro Shinohara, and the No. 6 Velorex car driven by Yoshiaki Katayama and former Formula 1 driver Roberto Merhi.
Suzuka, a track famed for its technical corners and high-speed sections, promises an intense battle as Ferrari continues its push in Japan’s most prestigious racing series.
