Fabuwood, a leading semi-custom cabinetry company known for delivering high-quality, “forever-home” products, proudly announces its acquisition of Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry, a luxury custom cabinetry manufacturer renowned for its artisan craftsmanship and timeless designs. This acquisition, a year in the making, provides dealers and designers with the trusted family-run experience of Plain & Fancy, now enhanced by Fabuwood’s cutting-edge technology in semi-custom cabinetry.
Plain & Fancy will retain its name, brand identity, and fully custom product offerings, continuing to serve as a luxury brand, while Fabuwood remains focused on semi-custom cabinetry. As part of the Fabuwood family, Plain & Fancy will benefit from increased resources and support. A user-friendly interface is also in development to streamline ordering and provide easy access to a wealth of resources for customers.
“We’ve long envisioned partnering with a like-minded manufacturer to strengthen our presence in the custom cabinetry market,” said Fabuwood President and CEO Joel Epstein. “John Achey’s journey, from starting Plain & Fancy in his garage to growing it into an industry leader with over 120 artisans, is truly inspiring. We’re thrilled to join forces with a brand that brings 56 years of craftsmanship expertise, and we look forward to exploring new opportunities for product innovation, growth, and local job creation. Together, we are stronger.”
George “Butch” Achey, who has led Plain & Fancy since his father John Achey’s retirement in 1999, will continue to serve as the company’s president. Selected Fabuwood showrooms will soon offer Plain & Fancy’s high-end cabinetry, and the partnership aims to leverage Fabuwood’s operational strengths to enhance Plain & Fancy’s technology and drastically reduce lead times, typically three to four months in the custom cabinetry space. This goal, alongside expanded customization options, reflects the brands’ shared commitment to delivering exceptional value.
“The cultural alignment between Fabuwood and Plain & Fancy played a crucial role in this partnership,” added Epstein. “Both companies share core values like positivity, accountability, and a collaborative approach with manufacturing teams and dealer networks. This alliance enables us to serve a broader market, from mid-range to high-end cabinetry, benefiting dealers, designers, and customers alike.”
Butch Achey, President of Plain & Fancy, echoed this sentiment: “As the industry evolves, embracing technological advancements is key to staying competitive. Partnering with Fabuwood allows us to preserve our time-honored craftsmanship while benefiting from their operational expertise. We’re excited for the opportunities this will create for both our customers and employees.”
